One of my favorite ways to warm up on cold winter days is to drink a hot beverage. My top choice is definitely hot chocolate; it reminds me of playing in the snow all day when I was a kid. We’d come in with bright red noses and fingers we couldn’t feel anymore.

When my parents got married, they couldn’t afford to buy all new ornaments to put on their first Christmas tree. To decorate their tree, they took little boxes my dad got from work and wrapped them with gift wrap, tied red yarn around them and hung them on the tree. My dad still has a couple of those ornaments in with the ornaments bought over the years. It is always nice to take them out, put them on the tree and think about how young they were when they got married!

Call me crazy, but I don’t like green bean casserole. I know, I know… it is a traditional Thanksgiving side dish, how could I not like it? Well, it just seems like a slimy mess to me. I’d rather find some new Thanksgiving side dishes and create a new tradition.

What I’m about to tell you is pretty embarrassing, but shows how much I love my desserts. Growing up, we would have Thanksgiving at my grandparents’ house. One year, all of the aunts, uncles and cousins gathered at my grandparents’ house and realized that we had more pies than we did people!

Fall is here, and that means playing in the leaves, dressing up for Halloween and stuffing ourselves at Thanksgiving. At this time of year, candy is plentiful and always seems to be around. It happens every year; we buy bags and bags of candy, and most of it ends up showing on my waistline.
