This post is sponsored by Appleseed’s to share their exciting new holiday arrivals; all opinions are my own. This post is written by guest author, Judy Burke. She’s a 56-year old mother and grandmother who works for the largest county in Washington state.
The chill is definitely in the air here in Washington State, and that means the holidays are nearly here! It always feels like a time of renewal for me and my home. Lots of holiday decorating starts with cleaning out and refreshing our main gathering places before we layer on the holiday cheer.
Getting Ready for the Holidays – Weeding my Wardrobe
It’s also a time when my wardrobe needs attention. Gone are the warm and lazy days of summer. What’s ahead is plenty of parties and celebrations where I want to look relaxed and casual, but more importantly, I want to be comfortable.
First, I pull from my closet all of the obvious pieces that are better suited for spring and summer. I quickly check them and donate any pieces that are no longer wearable to a textile drive – many schools and community organizations run them several times a year to earn money and to keep textiles out of landfills. Items that are still in great shape but don’t fit my style are donated to a local charity. Then I pack away the pieces I’ll base my wardrobe on next spring – I chose classic styles that can be worn in a variety of ways and focus on quality pieces that I’ll wear for years to come.
Next, I add my last season’s winter clothing to my all-season items, and that becomes the basis for my winter and holiday wardrobe. I then shop for a few new pieces with fresh colors or whimsical touches that bring out my personality. Plus, since it’s the holiday season, I look for wardrobe pieces that convey the happiness of the holidays – like something with a little bling to add to the celebrations.
Adding Appleseed’s Casual and Comfortable Style to my Holiday Wardrobe
This year I added some classic American style fashion pieces to my winter and holiday wardrobe from Appleseed’s. They carry timeless, classic, and New England heritage styles that encompass every lifestyle need. Including casual, active, tailored, and dressy styles in sizes for nearly everyone – misses, petites, and women’s plus sizes. Many have a preppy lean, but all look comfortable in any setting.
The Appleseed’s website is like having a stylish friend help you put together timeless outfits. You’ll find styling tips, comfort, and fit information and innovations, and help with adding the latest trends into your wardrobe where they make sense. By using whimsical prints, monograms, and seasonal updates, they can help inspire you to express your individual holiday style. They also have Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest social media accounts where they share exciting new options and ideas.
I spent quite some time looking through Appleseed’s new holiday arrivals, and after much deliberation and taking my current wardrobe into account, I purchased the following pieces to round out my winter and holiday style.
Shop the Look at Appleseed’s
- Alpaca Striped Scarf (#A0C446) – this handcrafted alpaca-blend scarf is silky smooth and warm. The vibrant colors wear well and look fabulous against the face. This would be a luxurious gift with a practical side. Color: Cherry
- Wide Wale Corduroy Fly-Front Pants (# A02353) – available in seven classic colors, I opted for black as the perfect winter pant. These buttery soft 100% cotton wide wale corduroy pants have traditional tailoring and comfortable back elastic insets for a fabulous fit and feel. The straight legs are flattering and have a smooth drape.
- Colorblock Boiled-Wool Jacket (# A36918) – This was the piece I based my other purchases around. The front-and-back color blocking spoke to me – it\s trendy while still being classic. It is sweater-soft and cozy, but very lightweight because it’s not lined, so it has unconstructed ease. I do wish the jacket was a bit longer, and I think one size larger would fit a bit better on me. It’s dry clean only, but worth the extra care for the way it feels on me.
I’ve been thinking of all of the ways I can use these timeless clothing pieces in my existing wardrobe. This outfit goes from Thanksgiving dinner to walking the dog to avoid the after-dinner bloat. I could also pair the colorblock jacket with a little black dress, tights, and boots – it would be the perfect outfit for caroling with the family. Or add a sequin top with the pants and scarf to add just the right holiday bling for Christmas Eve.
