ALADDIN Live-Action Movie: The Cast
In September of 2017, the live-action adaptation of Disney’s “Aladdin” started filming at the Longcross Studios located outside of London, England. The cast of the newest story from the Disney archives to be brought to life includes Will Smith (“Ali,” “Men in Black”) in the role of beloved Genie which was voiced by the late Robin Williams in the animated version; Mena Massoud (“Jack Ryan”) as Aladdin; Naomi Scott (“Power Rangers”) as Princess Jasmine the Sultan’s daughter; Marwan Kenzari (“Murder on the Orient Express”) as the evil sorcerer, Jafar; Navid Negahban(“Homeland”) as the Sultan who is desperate to find a suitable husband for his headstrong daughter; Nasim Pedrad(“Saturday Night Live”) as the princess’ handmaid and confident, Dalia; Billy Magnussen (“Into the Woods”) as Prince Anders, a potential husband from Skanland; and Numan Acar (“Homeland”) as Jafar’s right-hand man and head of the palace guard, Hakim.
ALADDIN Live-Action Movie: The Crew
This new film is based on the 1992 animated feature film as well as stories from “One Thousand and One Nights, ” and directed by Guy Ritchie (“Sherlock Holmes,” “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.”). The screenplay was written by John August (“Dark Shadows,” “Big Fish”) and produced by Dan Lin (“The LEGO Movie”). Executive producers include Marc Platt (“La La Land”), Jonathan Eirich (“Deathnote“) and Kevin De La Noy (“The Dark Knight Rises”). The film’s score includes two new songs written by Alan Menken, an eight-time Academy Award®-winning composer (“Beauty and the Beast,” “The Little Mermaid”) and songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (“La La Land,” “Dear Evan Hansen”). The film includes new recordings of the original songs from the animated version written by Menken and Oscar®-winning lyricists Howard Ashman (“Little Shop of Horrors”) and Tim Rice (“The Lion King”).
