Columbine (Aguilegia)

Another great flower that thrives in zone 8 (8a and 8b) is the  Columbine (Aguilegia) flower. It too attracts butterflies and birds, but it does it in a less invasive way than the Butterfly Bush. Columbine’s are not too picky about the soil they grow in as long as it drains well. They are, however, not happy in hot areas so in warmer locales like Texas you’ll need to find them a partial shade or full shade spot to make them happy, whereas that same plant will need full sun in Seattle.
