This review of Give Please a Chance is in partnership with JIMMY Patterson Books; however, all opinions are my own.
Children are never too young to start learning the concept of manners and kindness. One easy way to make learning fun is to engage kids with a fun story and colorful graphics, and that’s just what the authors of, Give Please a Chance have done. Written by best-selling authors James Patterson and Bill O’Reilly this book is available just in time for holiday gift giving.
This beautiful storybook is recommended for children ages three through six, but you can see that Ame, just eight months old, loved it. Ame’s father is my son, and it makes me smile to see him following in our footsteps. Both my husband and I read to both of our children from the day they were born. We rarely missed a bedtime story and read aloud to them long into elementary school.
My son and his wife have dedicated themselves to reading to our granddaughter as well, and Ame loves books and looks forward to storytime. She especially loves to help change the pages, and she spends hours by herself looking through them. Granted, they’re often upside down, and she skips back and forth, but that’s the perfect practice for when she’s older and can read on her own.
The repetitive nature of, Give Please a Chance, is perfect for bringing home the concept using the word “please” to very young children; it becomes almost a mantra and calming word. There are plenty of examples of where the word fits into a child’s everyday life and lends itself to a discussion about manners and kindness with older children.
The book’s unique illustrations were provided by seventeen different artists. This creative approach makes the book unique and exposes kids to the styles of a variety of artists and makes the book utterly charming. I especially appreciated the multi-cultural approach to the graphics. The inclusion of a variety of children of color means that Ame can find someone that looks like her to relate to.

Looks like a great book that would reinforce what manners are being taught at home.
This book looks like a fun way to teach kids good manners and to be polite. Littles love to be read to.
Being a good example, especially when it is tempting not to! Also, I never cease to be amazed at how often parents allow their kids to stampede and throw things in stores, just looking at them like they are the little darlings they are, but need manners! Good manners can help you in this world, start them young and make it part of their normal way!
This book looks so sweet! I love it, its so important to instill good manners in our children, and of course they follow by example. I am always polite and use my manners towards them and I gently remind them to use manners if they fail to forget.
your kids are watching and listening to you always, be sure to say thank you, your welcome, etc in your daily tasks and interactions with others. They can learn from your example.
I love the artistic quality of the book!
I love that books like these are available. I am getting a couple to gift. We need to be polite and tolerant to be able to have a positive life – teaching this to our kids is crucial
This is one of my favorite authors in James Patterson. It is so great to see his children’s book line.
Polite kids are the best kids. I can’t stand dealing with brats.
I truly hate when I hear parents use the excuse that they’re too young to learn manners so they just let them do whatever. That’s simply just not true. They may be too young to fully grasp the concept but you can still begin teaching them.
I definitely agree that kids are never too young to start learning manners. I love teaching my kids to be polite.
Books like this always makes me smile. Key words that promote generosity, respect and humility are huge factors in a child’s growth and well being in society.
What a lovely sounding book and what adorable pictures, the book looks so full colour as well.
This is a really great book it sounds. Teaching kids from a young age about manners and all the other important stuff is really important,,, especially when young!
I totally agree! I do believe that parents should start teaching kids the right manners while they are young. Love that there are books like this!
I am a big fan of James Patterson and his novels. I also love Bill O’Reilly’s show, The Factor. I’ve never thought these two would collaborate and author a great children’s book! I am getting copies of this book to give to my nephews and nieces, and of course, my grandchildren will have their copy too. What a great find this is!
My granddaughter loves story time. This book sounds great. Manners are so important.

This book would be perfect for my kids to learn good manners
I think its’s a wonderful book and that we really need this message in our culture.
Please is a word that children should learn at a young age and this book seems to make it fun to learn to say it. I also like that so many different artists were used for the illustrations.
I appreciate books/songs that help me get a lesson across. This seems easy to follow and fun.
I encourage good manners by telling my kids that they will receive a better response from people if they say please and thank you.
Love the idea of encouraging manners with books. It is very important for parents to teach their children at an early age to be respectful and thoughtful of others. I would love this for my family.
I SHOW BY EXAMPLE AND MAKE UP SCENARIOS.
We encourage kids to use good manners by treating them the same way.
My tip is to make sure that YOU model good manners in front of your kids. They will be more likely to have good manners if parents do too…
This sounds like a great book for kids. To many children lack any manners.
Kids can learn good manners from their parents if they set a good example.

This sounds like a great book from two well known writers.
This looks great! It’s kind of interested as a James Patterson reader to see this genre (or Bill O’Reilly for that matter who usually makes serious history books). Great message for kids
This is a very good book to help teach my kids manners. I think reading about manners to my kids would help them with their manners. I need to get this amazing book!
What a sweet book! I have always felt that the best way to teach manners is to use manners. If you use “please” and “thank you” with children, children will learn that as a “natural” way of speaking.
In the South we yes mam. no mam, yes sir & no sir.
I think the book looks helpful and fun for children to look at and/or read
