When my husband and I found out we were going to be parents, there was no doubt in our minds that curly hair is one trait our child would have. I have very curly, and wavy hair that I’ve deemed untamable. My husband, Alex, has very soft and loose curls if he allows his hair to grown long enough. We figured that if we had had a boy, the curly hair wouldn’t be a problem; girls love boys with curly hair. But we had a beautiful baby girl.
Of course, both of us panicked a little bit. Alex, because he has never had to learn how to braid hair or create pigtails. And me, I’ve yet to figure out how to care for my own curly hair, how am I supposed to take care of someone else’s?
Our little Ame is just seven months old now, and so far her curls are soft and tend to be adorable little ringlets at the ends of her hair; but who knows what her hair is going to look like in 5 years. Thankfully there are hair products that can make styling my little girl’s hair easier.
As I Am Born Curly: Organic Hair Products for Kids from Birth to 10!
As I Am®has just released a new baby and child line called Born Curly™. It’s a hair care and body line for kids from birth to 10 years old and is the only product line designed for naturally curly haired kids. The Born Curly products are professionally formulated with certified organic/natural functional ingredients which are specially designed to provide safer and toxic-free ingredients for babies and children with naturally curly hair. The products are certified organic and carry the NSF seal of approval. The NSF International certification seal of approval is assurance that the product has been tested by one of the most reliable independent certification organizations, valued by consumers, manufacturers, retailers, and regulatory agencies worldwide. These premium quality beauty products provide for “worry free” maintenance and tear-free care and styling of children’s hair.
Included in the product line are Aloe Shampoo & Wash, Avocado Shea Cowash, Argan Leave-In Conditioner and Detangler, Argan Curl Defining Jelly, Rosemary Vanilla Twist Defining Smoothie, Nourishing Hair & Body Oil, and Shea and Cocoa Butter Balm. I appreciate that most of them have a dual use, like the Aloe Shampoo and Body Wash. That means fewer products to buy!
Trying Out Just Curly on my 7-month-old Baby Girl
We tried out the products at bath time, and we love them! Their scents are sweet and light and from natural sources. The Aloe Shampoo and Wash provide gentle tear-free cleaning for children with very thick or long hair in addition to those children whose hair is prone to tangling. It’s followed by the Avocado Shea Hair Cleansing Cowash, a non-foaming and sulfate-free cleanser that doesn’t strip hair of its natural moisture. It also provides manageability and helps balance hydration.
The Argan Leave-In Conditioner & Detangler makes combing out her hair easier and minimizes hair breakage. But my favorite product is the Rosemary Vanilla Twist Defining Smoothie. It smells delicious and defines her curls beautifully.
Born Curly’s Nourishing Hair & Body Oil hydrates the skin and is luxurious after a bath, and it can be used to add shine to her hair. Finally, the Shea & Cocoa Butter Balm is a delicious way to spend a little time together connecting before bed. Massage the silky balm in to seal in moisture and give your little one’s skin and hair a glow.
I’m not so worried now about taking care of Ame’s curly hair as she grows older. She, however, has to worry about me stealing her Born Curly products! They feel fantastic, smell even better, and are certified organic; it doesn’t get much better than that!

None of my kids have curly hair (like me). I can’t imagine how hard it would be to deal with a child that has unruly hair!
Adorable way to spell your child’s name! My child started with soft curls as well, it didn’t last long! haha
I miss my kids’ curly hair! Great to know that theres great products out there to keep hair in shape.
I had one child with extremely thick hair that this probably would have worked well on. Sound like great products!
My girls have so much hair. It’s kind of insane. Having a good detangler is critical for getting through our day without tears.
I love that it hydrates. And such sweet baby pictures. I remember those days!
What a precious baby. I am so happy more products are catering to curly babies this looks great!
This looks like a great hair care line. I have a few friends with really curly hair that would love this.

This sounds perfect for babies. I love your baby’s curly hair! SO adorable!
These products look great and as a curly haired family I am totally going to try them for both my daughter and myself! I actually like the baby hair care because it is usually super gentle!
I like to let ‘adults’ know that sometimes the baby products work really well for curly girls with baby fine/thin hair too, so don’t knock it off as just for kids without trying it out on your own hair if’ it’s thin or frizz prone, it may work better than some of your adult heavier oil based products
I knew my girls were going to inherit my curls too. My oldest loves her curls but my youngest is struggling to maintain hers. I think Born Curly would be a great line of products for us to try!
Where was this wonderful product line when I was little?! I was born with kinky ringlets and hated having my hair done.
I have thick curly hair and it can be hard to find products that work well for me. This sounds great for kids with curly hair.
These sound like great products. With super thick hair like that, you need special products to really keep it healthy and conditioned. Everyone’s hair is different, and it’s important to remember to treat it accordingly. Love it!
