We had one last chance for a date night before my husband went back to work after taking a paternity leave to welcome our baby girl. Choosing to spend it having dinner at a Seattle restaurant and then catching the opening night of NEWSIES at the Seattle Paramount Theatre was the perfect way to celebrate.

Since this was the first time we’d left our little girl with anyone, you can imagine that we were preoccupied thinking about her. She was with her grandparents, but still, it wasn’t easy to leave her, and we talked about her throughout dinner. At one point I even pulled out my phone and looked through her pictures – I’m sure every new mother can relate to that!

You can imagine how much the anxiety of being out of touch for a few hours while we were at the theatre seemed. That was until the curtain went up. The show grabbed us from the opening scene, and we were able to relax and enjoy this amazing show!

If you don’t know the story behind NEWSIES, I recommend you rent the 1992 Disney movie the musical is based on. It’s the true story of New York’s newsboys and their decision to go on strike in 1899. It’s a compelling story and reminds us that life for the city’s children was very different back then.

The show debuted on Broadway in 2012, and it’s won two Tony’s including Best Score and Choreography. Memorable songs include ‘Seize the Day’ and ‘King of New York.’

The singing, dancing, and acting were all quite fantastic, and we couldn’t have enjoyed it more. It was truly a memorable date night and one we won’t forget soon.
