We had one last chance for a date night before my husband went back to work after taking a paternity leave to welcome our baby girl. Choosing to spend it having dinner at a Seattle restaurant and then catching the opening night of NEWSIES at the Seattle Paramount Theatre was the perfect way to celebrate.
Since this was the first time we’d left our little girl with anyone, you can imagine that we were preoccupied thinking about her. She was with her grandparents, but still, it wasn’t easy to leave her, and we talked about her throughout dinner. At one point I even pulled out my phone and looked through her pictures – I’m sure every new mother can relate to that!
You can imagine how much the anxiety of being out of touch for a few hours while we were at the theatre seemed. That was until the curtain went up. The show grabbed us from the opening scene, and we were able to relax and enjoy this amazing show!
If you don’t know the story behind NEWSIES, I recommend you rent the 1992 Disney movie the musical is based on. It’s the true story of New York’s newsboys and their decision to go on strike in 1899. It’s a compelling story and reminds us that life for the city’s children was very different back then.
The show debuted on Broadway in 2012, and it’s won two Tony’s including Best Score and Choreography. Memorable songs include ‘Seize the Day’ and ‘King of New York.’
The singing, dancing, and acting were all quite fantastic, and we couldn’t have enjoyed it more. It was truly a memorable date night and one we won’t forget soon.
The next Key Bank Broadway at the Paramount show is MOTOWN THE MUSICAL, buy your tickets now!
Very cool for date night. It’s hard to leave the baby, but keep in mind that you need this time. Date night benefits everyone, including baby!
Such date nights are amazing to connect with your partner & I always love such get-together frequently. Newsies is pretty new for me, but sounds like a wonderful show to make the date night a special one.
LOL It’s always hard to leave the baby alone the first time. Mine is 6 months now and I still get anxious and miss her a lot. But it’s great to take some me time with hubby! I’m a huge fan of musical so I know I would enjoy this for sure.
I would love to go see this. It would make a great date night.
What a great way to spend a kid-free night. I’m so glad it totally grabbed your attention and was so wonderful!
I think these shows are so much fun. Plus it’s a Disney production – it has to be great!
I truly am a strong believer in set date nights once a month or more to re connect together. You guys are cute together what a fun date night idea.
This seems like such an entertaining show. It is the perfect show to view as a couple during date night. Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen very often when you have kids.
That looks amazing. I can truly understand what it feels like to leave your baby for the first time; you actually leave your kid physically not mentally which is not a bad thing 🙂
I have heard of Newsies the musical but I don’t know much about it. I think seeing a musical would be a really fun date night!
I’ve never heard of newsies before but it sounds like it would be a great show! Especially for a date night something I haven’t gone out for in years!
I have to admit I’ve not heard of Newsies, but what a great sounding show and wonderful idea for a date night 🙂 x
Oh my! You need to see the movie stat! It’s so good! If the show comes to town, see it. It’s AMAZING!
