Storytime Singalong, Volume I by Emily Arrow
Literature-Inspired Music for Children
Kids music has come a long way since the late 80’s when Baby Songs was on permanent repeat in our home and cars. Today’s music is much more complex and with the exception of the kid-friendly lyrics, sounds very much like mainstream music. That’s especially true with the new music for children released by Emily Arrow (www.emilyarrow.com).
Arrow released a new album, Storytime Singalong, Volume One, in February 2016. It’s inspired by seven popular children’s books including THE DOT by Peter H. Reynolds, LOUISE LOVES ART by Kelly Light, THE CURIOUS GARDEN by Peter Brown, ONE DAY, THE END by Rebecca Kai Dotlich, illustrated by Fred Koehler, I WISH YOU MORE by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Tom Lichtenheld, ARE WE THERE, YETI? by Ashlyn Anstee, I AM YOGA by Susan Verde, illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds. What a wonderful way to marry a child’s literary world with lovely music.
Tracks include Books! Books!, The Dot Song, Louise Loves Art Song, Are We There Yeti?, I Am Yoga Song, One Day the End Song, I Wish You More Song, Poem in Your Pocket, Peanut to My Butter, and Follow Your Arrow.
The Dot Song LIVE – Emily Arrow & Peter H. Reynolds
Are We There, Yeti? feels a little more like traditional kids’ music with its Oompah-type beat. It feels a little bit out of place with the other very folk-pop type tunes, but kids will love it because of the fun noises she makes and the upbeat and very marchable music.
ARE WE THERE, YETI? Song – Emily Arrow & Ashlyn Anstee
The I Am Yoga Song helps kids learn the art of relaxation and being different. It also encourages stretching, wiggling, and breathing with a sweet, upbeat tune. “You can stand up for me, you can stand up for you, you can stand up for peace. There’s nothing we can’t do…”
Kids will love Keep a Poem in Your Pocket. Arrow talks to them about rhyming in this song that encourages them to create fun word combinations of their own. Parents and kids will make Peanut to My Butter a silly love song between them to remind each other how much they’re loved.
I can’t wait to share these songs with my new granddaughter, and I’ll be adding these books to her library.

I wish my kids were littler as I think they would totally enjoy this album. I love that there are such great lyrics!
Oh my gosh she’s adorable! What a cute song. You are right, music for kids has changed a lot. It’s less hyped up and just sweet!
My son is 8 and he loves music with his books. Doesn’t matter how, he just loves it!
My daughter loves singing along to anything lately! Will definitely keep this in mind for her
So cute. When kiddo was younger she had a lot of Kidz Bop or whatever it was. It was a fun way for her to listen to radio songs, but in a kid friendly way.
Oh this is so great, I am in love with anything to do with reading! This is perfect for my little niece!
My nephew absolutely loves to dance and these singalong songs would be a big hit with him. I like the diversity of the different songs too!
These are so fun! We definitely had to have plenty of kids music around when the kids were younger.
I love playing kids tunes in the house for my children – but it has been a struggle to find things that are not annoying! So glad to learn about this group – what a lovely voice she has and there’s an incredible message in those lyrics.
These sound like great songs. My son and I would always sing songs in the car when he was little.
This brings back memories. When my kids were little, they used to love to sing along with the music and with me.
That sounds so fun. I used to love stuff like this when my kids were little.
