Have you had enough of winter yet? While we’re having another mild winter. In fact, the weather has been so fair that I haven’t even bothered to have our studded tires mounted. But I know many of you are dealing with snow and ice, and I hope that you’re doing the one thing that matters most in winter driving, and that’s running on good quality tires. Now is not the time to try to get a few more miles out of your tires. If they’re worn, you need to replace them because your family’s life depends on it.

Proper Tire Tread – Here’s How to Measure It

Having proper tire tread is a must. You need adequate tread to stop and to grip the road. Do the quarter test to find out if your tires are safe. Skip the penny test, it only gives you the minimum legal tread requirement, not what’s safer for you and your family. Instead, do the quarter test. Using a standard US quarter, place it head down into the grooves. If any of George’s head is covered by the tread, you have more than 4/32″ of tread depth remaining.

While you’re checking the tread depth, pay attention to the uniformity of the measurements. Tires should wear evenly. If your measurements vary, you may have an alignment or balance problem.

Don’t think you can afford to replace your tires? You may want to rethink that. Worn tires that can’t grip the road correctly can lead to spin outs, sliding, and worse. The cost of an accident is far harder to afford. The potential for injuries, lost time at work, and more are realities, so take care of yourself and check your tires and replace them if necessary.

Tires don’t have to be expensive to be good. They have to be quality-made and from a manufacturer you trust. You can also save by purchasing from a retailer who provides additional services and no charge in addition to having great prices.

How to take advantage of Sam’s Club’s Dare to Compare Price Matching Offer

Bring a valid “all-in” quote from a tire sales and installation retailer to the service counter at your Sam’s Club Tire and Battery Center. The quote must be printed on dealer/retailer letterhead and dated within the past seven business days. The tire must be the same brand, same line, same load index and speed rating (service description) as the tire you intend to purchase at Sam’s Club.

Sam’s Club carries some club-specific tire lines – in these cases, Sam’s Club will match the club-specific tire line to the similar general-market tire line. Sam’s Club considers the following tire lines to be equivalent and will price match accordingly: Club-Specific Tire Model General-Market Tire Model BFGoodrich Touring T/A BFGoodrich Advantage T/A Michelin Defender XT Michelin Defender Michelin X Radial LT2 Michelin LTX M/S2

Now go outside and check your tires. The last thing you want to be dealing with is the aftermath of an accident.
