I received samples to facilitate this review; however, all opinion are my own.
Belli Skin Care For Expecting and New Moms
I’m a first-time mom and although I knew pregnancy was different for every woman and wasn’t easy I never thought I would spend the first trimester so sick that I was missing work and had become a permanent fixture on our couch. When you’re that sick, the last thing on your mind is how best to take care of yourself and your newly growing baby. For me, my mind was still trying to comprehend that I was, in fact, going to be a mother and not just dying. What body products I was using didn’t matter and it should because the amount of things we absorb through our skin, hair, etc. can all effect baby. Luckily Belli Skincare is a line that makes products that are good for both baby and mom during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Belli is Picky With a Purpose when it comes to the ingredients used in their products. Their mission is to create a working product using ingredients that when absorbed are safe for mom and baby and which in this day and age can be difficult.
All or their products are: Allergy tested, Paraben-free, No artificial dyes or fragrances, Teratology screened to avoid ingredients, synthetic or natural, with a known link to birth defects or miscarriage, LactMed screened to avoid any ingredient, synthetic or natural, that could be harmful if passed through breast milk, and Not tested on animals.
I received the facial products from Belli to test out. I will admit I had every intention of using the products for a week and writing a review on them, but because I was so sick it turned into an entirely different experience and I am grateful I had the products during that time.
It is always hard to switch up your facial routine because usually the skin reacts in a negative way first while it gets use to the new wash. At the time, it didn’t matter to me because I was barely leaving the house as is, but I had no break outs what so ever upon switching. This facial wash uses lactic acid instead of the more commonly found acids such as salicylic acid found in most facial washes. It has a very fresh smell due to the lemon peel oil, green tea, and cucumber contained in it. I will admit the smell was pretty strong (I had a super sense of smell going on), but because it was natural ingredients it was refreshing to my senses and didn’t make me feel sick. The wash can also be left on the face for 5 minutes as an intensive facial mask.
My lips were uncomfortable chapped due to dehydration. Any chapstick I tried either didn’t stay on my lips for more than 5-10 minutes or burned when I applied it because of the chemicals. This lip balm gave my lips instant relief and stayed on for hours. Not only that, but the next day my lips looked and felt so much better. It is odorless, so there’s no need to worry about how the smell may make you feel, and the tube features a slanted tip for smooth application. Even if I wasn’t pregnant, this lip balm can’t be beaten.
This moisturizer kept my skin soft and hydrated without feeling overly oily. Even after laying down all day my face still felt fresh. The moisturizer has a light citrus scent that once again did not make me nauseous, but what smells irritate each individual is different. It provides an antioxidant boost of Vitamin C and grapeseed oil for radiant, healthy looking skin. I only used it in the morning because if I got the energy my face washed once a day; life was good. It was very light feeling so I imagine it would make an excellent night time lotion as well as day use.
I also received the Acne Control Spot Treatment, Eye Brightening Cream, and Pure Radiance Facial Sunscreen. The Sunscreen didn’t work out for me just because of its color (it was too light for my skin tone) but would be a nice edition to have to put on over your moisturizer. The Eye Brightening Cream I used once, and it served its purpose. I haven’t had to deal with to many sleepless nights yet, but I am sure by the end I will be using it almost daily. I haven’t had to use the Spot Treatment either because my skin has reacted so well to the facial cleanser. All three of these things are made to the same standards as the rest of the product line so having them on hand to use if necessary is very nice without me having to worry about is it safe for my baby.
Where to Buy
Belli products can be found at buy buy baby, Destination Maternity, A Pea in the Pod Maternity, ULTA.com, and other retailers. The products are a little pricier than the common ones you’ll find at your local grocery store, but that’s because of the quality of ingredients, but I don’t have a problem paying for products that are safer for me and my growing baby.
