Just say the word “Thanksgiving” and you’ll likely imagine a table laden with food that’s surrounded by family and friends. We prep for the holiday for days creating our signature dishes that are lovingly prepared and presented. Then we fill the day with traditions handed down over decades from generation to generation.
For many of us, this is a reality we enjoy every year. Unfortunately, for some, pausing to celebrate would mean a break in the essential services we rely on as a community to keep us safe, warm and cared for. For police officers, firefighters, retail and restaurant employees, health care workers, public utility workers, military personnel, airline employees, caregivers, and more, a day spent with friends and family is instead another day at work. What’s worse, on holidays they often have to work with fewer resources making the day even more stressful.
La Brea Bakery Thanksgiving Hero Program
This year La Brea Bakery wants to ensure that these people are recognized for their selfless act of being in service to others by providing five people with a fully catered meal to enjoy on the job. You can help by nominating your Thanksgiving Hero for the honor.
“From first responders, to chefs, to supermarket employees, there are many people who make sacrifices on Thanksgiving and as a result, do not spend the holiday with their family and friends,” said Kristina Dermody, Brand President of ARYZTA, the parent company of La Brea Bakery. “As a leading food brand, we know how much this day means, and we want to do something truly special for those that have to be apart from family and friends on this day. We are excited to give our customers the chance to surprise their Thanksgiving hero this holiday season through our #ThanksgivingHero campaign.”
To nominate your hero, visit the La Brea Bakery Facebook page and click the “Thanksgiving Heroes” tab. There you’ll find a submission form. Type in your first and last name; zip code; email address; and write an essay of 100 words or less sharing why your family member is unable to spend Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends. Upload at least one photograph of you and your nominated family member and submit your nomination.
Nominations end on November 15th, and finalists will be announced November 17th. The public will vote for their favorite nominee through November 21st, and then the five winners will be surprised with a Thanksgiving meal at work on November 26th, 2015.
About La Brea Bakery
This artisan bread maker’s products include bread, buns, cookies, pizza and other premium baked goods. They can be found in 7,000 retail outlets nationwide, but my favorite place to enjoy their delicious baked goods is at their casual restaurant in Downtown Disney. It’s a destination in itself providing quality food in a relaxing location. As a vegetarian, they have a wide variety of choices I can’t find anywhere else in the park and their service is always exemplary.
