Breast Cancer. Those are two words that no woman ever wants to hear. But my mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and sister have all been among those who have been given the devastating diagnosis. Sadly they’re not alone. Every year approximately 250,000 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed. But did you know that it’s the most common cancer and the leading cause of cancer death among Hispanic and Latina women?
Breast Cancer Diagnosis? Free Silver Lining Companion Guide: A Supportive and Insightful Guide to Breast Cancer
Allstate wants to support women who are diagnosed with breast cancer by making The Silver Lining Companion Guide: A Supportive and Insightful Guide to Breast Cancer available at no charge. Because they recognize the devastating effect this disease has had on the Hispanic and Latina community, they’ve recently made this guide available in Spanish.
“Allstate is dedicated to supporting the wellbeing of women across the country,” said Stacy Sharpe, senior vice president of corporate relations, at Allstate Insurance Company. “It is Allstate’s hope, and the hope of our agency owners across the country who have volunteered to distribute the guide, that it will prove to be a source of comfort, knowledge and inspiration to all who read it.”
The Silver Lining Companion Guide is a helpful and supportive resource designed to assist everyone affected by a breast cancer diagnosis. Its author, Hollye Jacobs, is a nurse as well as a breast cancer survivor. She was diagnosed in 2010 as a 39-year-old mother. To cope, she created The Silver Pen blog to document her cancer experience which included a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation. Jacobs’ blog became the basis for her book which became a New York Times bestseller.
In her book, Jacobs’ shares advice on what got her through the devastation of her diagnosis, then through her treatments, and on into recovery. The book includes inspiring photographs which were captured by her friend and co-author, Elizabeth Messina, an award-winning photographer. Her photos show the reality of the disease as well as the light and beauty that can be found as well.
Jacobs’ continues to blog about her recovery as well as share practical advice like How to Help Someone Who Has Cancer, Talking to Kids About Cancer, Helping Kids with Cancer, and more.
