I participated in the 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum Adventure Tour to test drive this vehicle; all opinions are my own.
Someone hands you the keys to a 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum and tells you to go out and explore….it seems like a dream, right? But that’s exactly what happened to me recently when I participated in a unique event to get to know the newest Ford Explorer first hand. The 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum Adventure Tour was an opportunity for me to experience this new vehicle among some our country’s most beautiful scenery.
As one of the first people to get drive this new SUV, I had no preconceived notions about what I’d find inside. Let me tell you, the tech they’ve loaded it with blew me away!
2016 Ford Explorer Platinum: Magical Features For More Safety
The Platinum joins the popular line of Ford Explorers, which include the base model, the XLT, Limited, and Sport. The Platinum takes all of the best features of the others, adds a little magic, and makes them standard. For instance, it has Enhanced Active Park Assist with Parallel Parking, Park Out Assist, Reverse Perpendicular Parking, and Forward and Side Sensing Systems. What’s that mean for you? It can get into, and out of, most any parking situation. You control the gas and brake; it controls the steering wheel. It’s some serious magic!
It also has a souped-up Lane-keeping System that does more than just warn you that you’ve drifted out of your lane by gently correcting you back into your lane. It also boasts Adaptive Cruise Control which changes your speed based on the traffic conditions as well as Collision Warning with Brake Support which doesn’t just warn you that you’re too close, it brakes to stop you from colliding.
You’ll also find wide-angle front and rear cameras with washers – a first in this class – and a hands-free liftgate to make life easier. Sure other cars have some similar features, but none of them has the full-on automatic power the 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum has. And yes, if you’d rather the SUV not have that much control, you can set which options you’d like to turn off.
2016 Ford Explorer Platinum: Comfort
The only options available on the Ford Explorer Platinum is the color and bucket or bench seats; everything else is standard. That includes heating and cooling driver and passenger seats that also have built-in massagers. Plus Ford didn’t leave your passengers out in the cold, the second-row seats are heated as well! Combine that with the zone-controlled heating and cooling and you’ll find it’s comfortable for everyone. And comfortable it is. Even after more than eight hours of driving, I felt supported and ready to keep on heading south.
The interior is wrapped in high-quality Nirvana Leather. Not just the seats, but the door, console, and instrument panel. The dual-panel moonroof lets you choose the amount of air flow and sunlight you want to let in. The navigation system is incredibly user-friendly and the helpful. This new auto is also outfitted with a 500-watt premium sound system from Sony® that will rival home entertainment systems.
2016 Ford Explorer Platinum: Own It
This new vehicle is an SUV for those who appreciate the best of the best. The cutting edge tech and top of the line comfort and safety features are wrapped inside a sleek and stunning body. This Ford is all about an understated luxury – it’s not flashy or pretentious – it’s a comfortable and powerful SUV with 4-wheel drive and a 3.5L EcoBoost® engine with 6-speed SelecShift® Automatic Transmission.
Want one for yourself? Visit your local Ford’s showroom, you’ll find them there with a price tag of about $53,000. For all this luxury, comfort, and style, it’s a price you’ll find hits the mark.
Now that you know a little more about this new SUV I’ll be sharing about my adventure in the next few days. Also check out what my driving partner has to say about our adventure at Tammilee Tips.
