Veestro delivers 100% plant-based, non-GMO, organic, and chef-prepared entrees and desserts to your home. They’re cooked fresh in southern California and then frozen and shipped nationwide (lower 48) overnight with dry ice so they arrive still solidly frozen. You can order their packaged plans like their 21-Day Kickstart to Better Health or choose your own via their ala cart menu.
The meals arrive in freezer-safe containers with some ingredients separated to give you a better result during heating. I decided to cook all of my meals in a standard baking dish in a toaster oven though you can use a microwave if you like.
I recently got a chance to sample a few of their healthy, vegan convenience foods, so I could share they with you.
Made with gluten free oatmeal, organic soy milk, organic green apples, dried cranberries, organic chia seeds, vanilla extract, cinnamon, lemon juice, brown sugar, walnuts, gluten free flour, vegan butter, and the surprise ingredient – organic sweet potatoes! I had no idea they’d snuck in a veggie when I tried this oatmeal.
It’s a lot like baked oatmeal, without the eggs. I tried it alone and found I missed the slight sweetness and coldness of organic soy milk paired with the hot, thick oatmeal. I remedied that by putting it in a bowl and pouring soy milk over it. This oatmeal breakfast pie was of my favorite meals. Would I order it again? Heck yes!
I wanted to love this Veestro Breakfast Burrito because it had so many great ingredients in it – spinach, tofu, shallots, onions, black beans, and red bell peppers – plus there was a side of potatoes – win/win! Unfortunately, the whole wheat tortilla was a soggy mess. I cooked it until the potatoes were crispy, and it was hot inside, but the bottom of the burrito was like glue. So disappointing.I unwrapped and tossed the tortilla and ate the filling alone and it was spectacular. It’s too bad the tortilla wasn’t packed separately and then rolled after heating. That would have produced a better product. Will I order it again? Yes, and I’ll pull it apart in the same manner – it’s so delicious.
This was the first entree I put into my cart. I was so excited to have a tofu and noodles dish with peanut sauce. To make it a healthier meal, buckwheat soba noodles were used. I’m not sure if that’s where the tanginess came from, but something in the meal was strange. The veggies were cabbage and scallions with a peanut sauce that’s warmed separately and then added. This was the only meal I couldn’t finish. Reorder? No
This red curry dish is a stretch for me. Curries can be spicy, but this one is mild with just a tiny kick. It’s cooled by the coconut milk and partnered with tofu, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, and brown rice in rounds.
There’s so much going for this dish, and the fact that it has just 290 calories is one of them. It doesn’t taste like a diet meal – it’s hearty, savory, and delicious! Reorder? Absolutely!
As a previous meat-eater, one of the few things I miss is gravy and something to eat barbeque sauce on. This Country Fried Chick’n Dinner with gravy satisfied both of my cravings.
The vegetarian chicken is made from gluten flour, garbanzo flour, and nutritional yeast and seasoned with rosemary and thyme. There’s also cashew cream, and then they’re coated with panko crumbs. The mashed potatoes are traditional though made with vegan butter and soy milk. The gravy is made with garlic, onion, sage, tamari, and vegetable broth.
The gravy is heated separately and then poured over the meal. I tried it on just one patty, and that left the other one ready to be dipped in barbeque sauce – yum! This vegetarian chicken and gravy combo is a meal I could eat every night. The portion size is perfect, and there are just 310 calories in the meal. Reorder? Absolutely yes!
I chose this entree because I need to break out and try new flavors. The description said there were hints of spices with exotic flavors from faraway lands, so I took a chance.
The aroma this dish puts out is incredible, but I was a bit worried that the strong scent meant a spicy dish. Thankfully that wasn’t the case at all. The vegetarian chicken (chick’n seitan) marries well with the tomatoes, onions, red peppers, carrots, and peas with the vegetable brown rice. The surprise in this dish was the Yukon gold potatoes. They added a texture that was fabulous. I could eat this one every night as well. Reorder? Always!
Raspberry Tofu Cheezcake
I’ve not converted from vegetarian to vegan because I like real butter and cream cheese. My palate just isn’t ready to make the switch to vegan butter and tofu instead. If you’re a fan of vegan alternatives, you’ll likely love this. For me, it was disappointing. Silken tofu just can’t mimic the taste and texture of cream cheese. That said, this is by far much healthier than a traditional cheesecake. It uses pea protein to give it a nutritional punch. Would I order it again? No.
