Cotton is quite possibly the best fabric on earth. It’s a natural fiber from a biodegradable and renewable source, and when it’s grown organically, it’s as close to perfection as it gets. Unlike synthetic fabrics that are made from cheap petroleum products, cotton breathes so it’s comfortable to use all year round and as a bonus, it wicks moisture. It’s so important to reduce the number of chemicals and toxins we expose our bodies to.

It’s so important to reduce the number of chemicals and toxins we expose our bodies so I buy organic cotton whenever I can. I recently acquired a beautiful cotton quilt from Anora Cotton. It’s created from three layers of cotton, so it’s lightweight and not bulky. The outer layers are hand blocked with natural dyes and carved teak wood blocks on organic cotton fabric. The filling isn’t made from pre-made batting, but from hand fluffed organic cotton.

The print is beautiful, and the hand-stitching is a fabulous touch. It’s reversible with a tiny print on one side and a more open print on the other. The hand blocked border and coordinating fabric are perfect for a country cottage look and as a bonus, the pattern matches my Lands’ End striped sheets beautifully.  It feels luxurious, and we love using it to wrap up on the couch or to throw over ourselves when were sitting out late at night on the patio.

While the quilt is eco-friendly, the fact that it’s dry clean only has me a bit worried. I have moved away from dry cleaning because of the chemicals, and I won’t be taking this quilt there anytime soon. Rather I’ll try the steam option on my washer or a super short wash and then very gentle dry. It’s worth it to me to risk shrinking the quilt or ruining the pattern rather than expose myself to dry cleaning chemicals.

Anora Cotton offers quilts, comforters, bedsheets, throws, and accent pillow covers. They stock plenty of floral prints in tons of great colors.
