For me, denim has never gone out of style, so it’s funny to see it’s trending for spring 2015 in plus size clothing. It’s the easiest and most forgiving fabric to wear, and it’s available in a ton of colors. It’s also a plus sized girls best friend because it skims over the lumps and bumps and hides them brilliantly unlike so many of the stretch fabrics that have been popular over the last few years that made even thin people look like they had bulges.
Now that denim is truly in style I see it everywhere. There is one important thing about denim to think about when you’re traveling – it can be heavy! My suitcase was once overweight by 5 pounds and all I had to do was take my denim jacket out of it. But today denim comes in all sorts of weights from barely-there chambray to 100% cotton denim (the good stuff that lasts forever).
Here are my Plus Size Clothing Spring 2015 Trends – Denim Picks!
I had a plus size denim shirt very much like this one that I took on every trip though mine was a dark denim. I used it on the plane as a light cover or rolled it up for a pillow, and I wore it in place of a jacket during mild weather. I loved that shirt – it stayed wrinkle-free and looked great the entire trip no matter how much I bunched it up. Sadly I left it at a store in the San Fransico Airport when I went to pay for my snacks for the plane. An excellent long-sleeved denim shirt can be used as a beach cover-up, too! How I miss that shirt!
Every closet needs an easy-to-wear denim dress for spring and summer. Lightweight denim is the key for comfort on this one and a style that’s fun and flirty. Dress it up with accessories or add sandals and head to the beach.
It’s not officially spring until the capris come out! These lightweight denim capris are perfect for spring and summer. Roll them up for splashing in the waves.
This dress isn’t my favorite eShakiti denim style, but I wanted to add it because I just ordered three dresses for spring/summer and can’t wait for them to arrive. What I love about eShakiti is that for $7.50 more you can have a dress made to measure. That means this 5’10” plus size woman is going to have finally found a dress that’s long enough and a waist that hits AT my waist and not through the middle of my boobs. For you petite women, you will finally get a dress that fits you, too!
Running errands? Check. Taking the kids to the park? Yes. Meeting the hubby for lunch? Oh yea! This little denim dress is perfect for any casual occasion.
This is a transitional denim dress – perfect for early spring and late summer when nights are cool and days are warm. An easy wrap style that flatters most.

This designer does not believe in the “less is more” approach. There is so much going on here that instead of being overwhelming, it comes off as casual but chic. Pockets, plackets, a belt, ruched sleeves, and more all work together to make this an appealing mid-weight denim dress.
A little Boho-chic, this dress brings back some the 1970’s styling that’s so popular right now. The cap sleeves and tiered skirt are spot on in trend and so comfortable to wears.
Yes, denim can be chic! This fresh sheath dress shows just how versatile denim fabric is.
I love the styling of this dress. It’s very similar to my favorite dress from 1979 (though mine was a print). The style is super easy to wear and so comfortable. The 3/4 length sleeves let you wear it longer into the fall, and the lightweight denim is cool in summer.
Yes, I own this skirt and have for years (though on me it’s sadly above the knee). It’s the perfect traveling skirt – no-wrinkle and looks great no matter what you put it through. Wear it from breakfast to dinner, just add a scarf or jacket and cute sandals and you’re ready.
I own this skirt in several colors (medium and dark denim and black). It’s another skirt perfect for travel. The longer length gives more coverage when you’re active. The denim is mid-weight, so it’s got a lot of body to it, and it look fantastic on. I’ve owned one of these denim skirts for over ten years, and it still looks new. On me, the skirt is about 2″ below my knee (I’m 5′ 10″ tall).
A denim ruffle tiered skirt and white sandals just screams summer! So comfortable to wear and lightweight enough to billow when the wind blows. Super cute style for the beach, a picnic, or a day at the fair.
Here’s a great example of how to dress up your denim. While the skirt could easily be worn with a casual top and shoes, they’ve paired it with a pair of nude pumps, a peach top, ivory jacket, and gold jewelry.
Mix denim into your lycra wardrobe. Mix your fabrics for more interest. Even the metal bracelets liven up this outfit though I think the amount of jewelry is a bit much.
Beware of the short, boxy denim jackets. They look fantastic on plus size women who carry their weight in their body and have a short waist, very little curves, and thinner legs. They’re not flattering on an hourglass shape, and they make you look heavier than you are. For an hourglass shape choose longer jackets that are tailored with vertical seams to elongate your look.
These are my favorite plus size denim looks for spring and summer 2015. Do you have a favorite denim plus size clothing piece you’ll never give up?
