Follow us this weekend as we experience the Washington State Apple Blossom Festival taking place in beautiful Wenatchee, Washington. The festival has been held annually since 1919 with the exception of a three-year hiatus during WW2. I attended the Festival myself the late 1970s when my best friend from a small town nearby competed for the title of the Apple Blossom Queen. No, she didn’t win, but I remember the event fondly, so I’m looking forward to visiting again.

Apple Blossom 2015: May 1-3 Wenatchee, WA

Like any great festival, there are plenty of things to do. The Apple Blossom Golf Tournament starts today; tomorrow is the 3rd Annual Apple Blossom “Cruiz-In” after the Les Schwab Classy Chassis Parade. Plus there’s the Wal-Mart Arts & Crafts Fair that runs all three days. Over 100 artists, musicians, and crafters will be in Memorial Park for your shopping and listing pleasure. The Stemilt Growers Grand Parade runs through downtown (find the parade route map here) and is filled with floats, bands, and Apple Blossom Royalty. I met the folks from Stemilt Growers last year and am I’m not surprised to find out they’re sponsoring the parade. They were genuinely warm and friendly people who are very proud of their work and the area the live in.

It’s also the Apple Blossom Promenaders Square Dance Weekend. I confess,  I did some promenading and do-se-do’ing back in high school and for rusty old dancers like me, as well as new ones, they’re offering dance workshops as well as performing. For bike enthusiasts, there’s the Tour D’ Bloom race (which I’ll happily watch from the new Beer Garden).

GS Long Co is presenting Hell on Hooves Roughstock Rodeo (there is a fee) May 1-2. On a far different note, Monty Python’s “Spamalot,” the Apple Blossom Musical, is playing at the Riverside Playhouse (buy tickets online).  Also on May 1st, the Seattle Opera is presenting “Our Earth,” at the Performing Arts Center. Admission is by donation.

Of course, there’s a carnival and plenty of parade and festival food as well as all of the regular dining in the area. I could go on about all of the great events, but go visit the Apple Blossom 2015 website to see them all for yourself.

I hope I’ll see you this weekend at the Apple Blossom Festival in Wenatchee. Bring your sunglasses, the weather looks like it’s going to be perfect parade weather!
