My mom is a self-proclaimed “Queen of Theme.” Growing up, she had a festive meal planned for every holiday and always had some fun themed treats in the days leading up to it. She decorated our home with simple, mostly handmade decorations like an old Aunt Jemima’s syrup bottle that she had tole-painted to look like a Halloween witch. Holidays in our house were magical, and I have such good memories!
Now that I’m a mom, I’ve tried to capture some of that same magic for my boys. They’re young, so we’re still coming up with our annual traditions — for Halloween, we love visiting our local pumpkin patch, and I’ve made some cute bat and ghost decorations to hang around the house. One tradition I love to carry on is the art of the themed dinner. Last year I made a special Halloween dinner that included “mummified” hot dogs, “spider” peanut butter and cracker sandwiches, and “ghost” bananas with googly eyes — and they were a hit with our then-three-year-old.
This year I’m already pulling together new ideas for our Halloween night meal, plus treat ideas for a few holiday parties on the calendar over the next week. I need things that are simple, quick and AWESOME — and I figured you might need some ideas too.
Here are ten of my favorite Easy Kid-Friendly Halloween Treats from around the web:
- A darling spin-off from everyone’s favorite “worms in dirt” cups — Ghosts in the Graveyard pudding cups from Our Best Bites.
- No-bake Spiderweb Cheesecake from Mel’s Kitchen Cafe — add a chocolate spider and freak out your kids!
- These jack-o-lantern stuffed peppers (from CitronLimette) are adorable!
- Frozen “Boo!”-nana pops from Skinny Taste.
- Pumpkin Popcorn Balls over on Mom On Time Out.
- Dress up a regular dish of chili with a cheddar spider or bat, via Parents Magazine.
- Add those googly eye candies to just about anything, and my kids will eat it. Love this healthy-ish Monster Fruit Dip from 30 Handmade Days.
- As mentioned, our family’s favorite Mummy Dogs via Mel’s Kitchen Cafe.
- Mini pumpkins made out of cuties from The Happy Gal.
- These Ghost Meringues from Smart School House are so easy — only four ingredients!

I like the cuties. Since I’ll be teaching tomorrow, it’d be a great solution to balance out some of the sugar the students will have. But I can’t pull it off this year. Maybe next year.
So many great choices to choose from. I like the chili with the bat cut-outs. Of course, now that I saw a good bowl of chili I would love to have a bowl. 😉
