If you want to make a great sandwich, you have to use the freshest ingredients possible and that includes the bread. Roman Meal is one bread that’s fresh when it arrives at your local store, so it’s one I often recommend. But what’s really fabulous about the light brown bread is that it’s made by a family-owned and operated company since 1912 and they’re local (about 60 miles from Seattle) but their bread is baked at over 90 regional bakeries (as well as Internationally) so it’s fresh no matter where you live. Plus they were one of the first companies to offer whole grain bread nationwide.
Roman Meal bread is made from a blend of wheat, wheat bran, wheat germ, whole rye, and flaxmeal with just a hing of sweetness added by the inclusion of molasses and honey (and NOT high fructose corn syrup!). You’ll find that all this goodness comes with 21 grams of whole grain (that’s 40% of an adults recommended requirement), plus it’s a great source of vitamin D, calcium, and fiber. They have both traditional Roman Meal Sandwich Bread in addition to Roman Meal Round Top for those of you who like a bigger slice. Their bread averages $2.64 a loaf so it’s economical as well.
Plus because Roman Meal has such a great texture and weight, it’s perfect in recipes. Everything from main dishes to desserts and especially for breakfast. The brand’s website offers a substantial list of recipes featuring Roman Meal bread, in addition to the four shared here.
