This conversation on beauty is brought to you by Almay; all opinions are my own. I am attracted to the beauty of people, colors, scents, and more. I look far beneath the mask most people wear everyday to the person beyond. I like to think that beauty is connected to the soul. That someone who is kind, compassionate, caring, and giving is truly the most beautiful a person can be. Can a person with an ugly soul be beautiful? Sure, for a time, but eventually their ugliness is exposed. Beauty doesn’t mean perfection in my mind. A flower with missing or misshaped petals smells just as sweet as one that’s perfect. A child’s laugh is sweet, no matter what the challenge the child faces. A dance performed by someone with passion is beautiful no matter the shape of the body performing it. I’m OK with the imperfections of beauty. It makes me appreciate it all the more because it’s a challenge to compete in a world that celebrates perfection. I appreciate a company who celebrates differences as well and lifts them all up, equally, to show that there’s more than one standard of beauty.
Celebrating Beauty: What Makes Me Beautiful
Almay is one company that celebrates all women and while their brand ambassador happens to be stunningly beautiful, she is also someone who appears to have that glow from the inside out. I watched as Carrie Underwood transition from country star contender to superstar, and though country isn’t my genre, I sill admire her. Underwood shares her thoughts on beauty, makeup, and personal style in this video below. I’m all for accentuating and highlighting what makes me feel good about myself and as I turn 53 this week, I’m learning to love my lines. They mean I’ve laughed enough to create permanent reminders of good times.

What do you think? Is beauty something we put on or something we have? What makes you beautiful?
Beauty is all about how a we choose to see ourselves and others… if we choose to find the positive we will see beauty 🙂
Beauty is loving whatever you look like. I’m not saying don’t lose weight, etc., but stop comparing yourself to other people. Society has what they deem “beautiful” and a lot of people feel “ugly” because they do not fit society’s standards.
i’ve never worn makeup.i dont equate it with beauty.beauty comes from within.my beauty comes from my personality and my kindness
Anything that gives me confidence makes me feel beautiful! I love feminine items and bright colors too!
It really seems to me that beauty can be anything that makes you feel in tune or connected to yourself, whether it’s going full hilt dolled up or paint splattered from working on an art project to sweats and a tee all day long while playing with your kids! I think it can be what you look like, what you are doing, what you are feeling, anything!
my theory is to learn to love yourself the way you are; nothing wrong with how you look But Almay does help one feel “pretty”
I agree – I don’t mind enhancing what I’ve got, but I’ll be darned if I’m going to tie my self-worth to my looks. Did that for 50 years…what a waste of time.
Carrie Underwood is so pretty. I use Almay makeup often. I’m turning 52 and learning to accept the lines on my face.
Lines are a part of life. Why waste time worrying about them. If someone judges me because of them, they’re likely someone I wouldn’t want to hang around anyway. Embrace your age!
I love your take on laugh lines, and I hope you had a great birthday with plenty of laughs. As for personal beauty, I’m going through a phase where I don’t feel beautiful at all. 🙁
Anne….anne….anne….do I need to point you to the post where I came to the realization that I wasted way too many years feeling unbeautiful because people told me I wasn’t? My self worth is NOT tied to my exterior and neither is yours. If you’re a kind person, you’re beautiful. PERIOD. (((HUGS)))
To me what makes a person beautiful comes from the inside.
A kind and compassionate heart, someone that has grace and tact in their everyday dealings and someone that puts the needs of others first is beautiful.
I have met others who were truly gorgeous on the outside but extremely vain and self centered on the inside and this to me diminishes what you see on the outside.
I would rather let my beauty come from the inside any day.

You’re so very right. I love people because of WHO they are, not how they look. I can honestly say I’ll love my husband through anything.
I love this campaign, it’s a great reminder for me that I am beautiful
Way to go on turning 53, my mom used to tell me be proud of the lines and wrinkles we have as we have earned them all, by love, crying, happy and loving life. I love Almay products they are great for our older skin, take care and love life.
Carry Underwood always seems genuine and she looks natural. She’s a good rep. of Almay.
What makes someone beautiful is their heart, it really shows from the outside in, Carrie appears to have a good heart.
Carrie Underwood really is a beauty icon!
I’m 54 – and I too love my laugh lines, and my gray hair! They mean I was blessed enough to live this long so far – so many folks around the world can’t hope for the life expectancy we have in this country.
I’m covering my gray – THAT I’m not ready to accept just yet 🙂
True beauty is how you treat others. Being kind, loving and helpful.
For me it is always what a person is made of inside and how they act rather than how they look, that makes them look beautiful to me.
And that is why we’ve been online buddies for so many years. You’re beautiful Janet!
Carry Underwood is truly beautiful, not just because she’s pretty, but because she has a beautiful heart. When I think of beauty, I think of the beauty that comes from the soul.
I think you’re right. She truly appears to be a kind person.
Beauty comes from the inside out
What makes you beautiful is when everything about you from your laughs to yours tears to your love is so genuine. <3
I love how a person becomes more beautiful as I get to know their personality!
Or ugly! It’s so true that what’s inside counts. I adore my husband and think he’s stunningly beautiful but when I first met him I wasn’t physically attracted to him. Thankfully I spent months getting to know him as a friend and THEN I fell madly in love….that was 34 years ago and I still adore him and he gets better looking every day. I’m a lucky girl.
When I think of beauty I think of the old adage, “Beauty is as beauty does.”
Good thing to remember!
The inslde is what matters the most.
Yes it is!
Carrie is so beutiful naturally its hard to believe she is 53. I dont know of anyone se who looks even close to that pretty at that age.
Carrie isn’t 53! She’s 31. I’m the one turning 53 today! 🙂
Nice post.I too think beauty comes from the inside.BTW~Happy Birthday! 🙂
Ah, that’s Dana!
First, Carrie is gorgeous. Second, Almay rocks and third, I was just teaching my kids how beautiful, or sexy someone can be, even with what people might consider an “ugly” face 🙂
I love Carrie Underwood. And Almay is one of my favorites.
Of course we all see beauty on the surface, but for me it was always on the inside that made a women beautiful..
Almay is one of my favorite drugstore makeup brands. Their eyeshadow palettes are highly pigmented. 🙂
I agree – beauty is something we have inside. The makeup just accentuates our good features on the outside (which is great – I’ll take it!) but true beauty must come from inside. Thanks for this great post!
The differences/uniqueness in people is what helps make us beautiful. I love your quote… it’s true our lines show that we smile and laugh and lived! 🙂
I believe beauty comes from the inside out. Because we all age I feel we should not hide that part of our beauty also. Thanks for sharing.
I love this campaign. Kudos to Carrie Underwood too, for being a part of it.
It is amazing how much beauty you can find in almost anything if you watch closely, I like to always find the positives and the beauty in not just people, but things and behaviors. Celebrating beauty within ourselves is also important. Happy Birthday!!
First of all, Good for You and the way you perceive people. I too believe real beauty comes from the soul and not the outward appearance. I love that Almay is promoting this and I enjoyed your post.
Beauty is different things to different people. I find the most beautiful people are those who are the most genuine.
That is so true!!! I totally agree with you!
I love celebrating what makes you beautiful and the insides of it! I love the outlook!
I absolutely lovet his! That is so true, I saw I started to get some fine lines and they are laugh lines! What a great outlook on them!
