It seems like I’ve spent my entire life trying to stop sweat. No really. I have. I remember as a teen stuffing tissue into my armpits to dry them on quick trips to the restroom while out with friends. It was a regular occurrence and so frustrating. Sadly, several times I forgot to pull the tissue out before I returned to the table and sometime in the next hour or two that wad of tissue would fall from its hiding place and hit the floor. Yes, that was a disaster. As someone who’s never needed to stuff her bra, I’m sure my dinner companions were wondering what the heck I was up to. Thankfully, no one ever said anything, but I still cringe thinking about it.
My desire to stay dry has made me hold my arms out away from my body which created a weird and awkward stance. It’s made me retreat to my car to turn on the fan to full blast to dry my shirt on lunch breaks. I’ve even resorted to using hand-dryers in public bathrooms to keep me from having embarrassing wetness stains. I thought my troubles were over when they invented “clinical strength” antiperspirants, and for the most part they were, until I discovered the health issues associated with some of the ingredients used in them.
So I switched to a natural deodorant and while repeated applications throughout the day kept the bacteria that cause underarm odor at bay, the wetness was still a problem. Because I value my health more than being dry, I stuck with it when I was around the house, but used clinical strength anti-antiperspirant when I left home. But it looks like I may have finally found the perfect answer for me. A natural product with no artificial colors or fragrances, no preservatives, no animal products, and not tested on animals that promises to keep me odor-free AND dry!
This new Women’s Naturally Dry Antiperspirant I’m trialing is from one of my favorite natural personal care products companies, Tom’s of Maine. They’re are a company dedicated to making great products without all of the harmful chemicals most brands use. I believe in them so much that I already use their anti-plaque and whitening fluoride-free toothpaste and aluminum-free deodorant and I heartily recommend both.
Does Tom’s of Maine Naturally Dry Antiperspirant Work?
Yes! Plus it goes on clear and doesn’t leave embarrassing deodorant marks and has a very gentle smell. The texture is nice and creamy and it goes on easily without dragging. I’m loving the way it feels and works.
I do have one small concern though about the Tom’s of Maine Women’s Naturally Dry Antiperspirant. It uses naturally sourced potassium alum and zinc citrate and while I’ve tried to eliminate all alum (aka aluminum) from my personal care products, this form of alum is a natural mineral salt whose molecules are thought to be too large to be absorbed through the skin as readily as the aluminum in standard brands. That said, I’ll continue to use their aluminum-free deodorant for everyday use and the Tom’s of Maine Women’s Naturally Dry Antiperspirant when wetness might be an embarrassment. That allows me to minimize my total exposure to chemicals which some studies have linked to breast cancer and Alzheimer’s, while staying dry when it’s necessary.
