I’ve been enjoying Cortana on the Nokia Lumia Icon which I recieved from Verizon; all opinions are my own. #VZWBuzz
As the owner of a new Nokia Lumia Icon Windows Phone, I’ve been happily exploring all of the innovative features it has available (also read: Why the Nokia Lumia Icon is an Outdoor Lover’s Best Friend). I love the simplicity of the user interface, the customizable home screen, and tile system. But with the most recent operating system update (Windows Phone 8.1), I discovered the most useful tool in my new phone’s arsenal.
Cortana: My Personal Smartphone Assistant
The new tool that has made my life easier is an app called Cortana. It’s a Personal Smartphone Assistant that’s only available on smartphones running the Windows Phone 8.1 update. This single app has turned my phone into my personal assistant.
Just like a lot of us, I tend to be forgetful about things I need to do. It may be as simple as forgetting to return a Redbox movie, but with Cortana I don’t have to worry about overlooking errands and tasks any longer. With a simple press of the search button on the front of my phone, I tell Cortana to “remind me to return that Redbox movie when I leave the house”.
Cortana then uses the GPS function of the Nokia Lumia Icon to see when I leave home and it pops up a nice little reminder on my screen! This little feature keeps me on track with all sorts of things and now that I’ve found so many useful ways to make use of it, I don’t know what I would do without it.
Cortana also takes my interests into account and shows me daily updates on what I’m most interested in. It lets me get a quick glance at weather in my city and the top news stories in my areas of interest, all before leaving the house. In addition, Cortana can be used to control my phone’s other features. For example, I can ask Cortana to turn off my Wi-Fi, or to turn on my favorite music.
I’ve also added a Nokia DT-900 Wireless Charging Plate. It’s a wireless charger which has made this a phone that suits my needs perfectly. This little wireless charger keeps my Nokia Lumia Icon Windows Phone ready-to-go without much thought on my part. The phone has a Qi wireless charging built right in so there’s no bulky extra battery case necessary. I simply lay the phone onto the charging plate and it does the rest. It couldn’t be any simpler, but it means my battery is always charged.
Its simple system of lets me know when my phone is charging and when it’s charged. It has a simple design that is easy to pack in my bag if necessary.
Generally speaking, I find that Cortana app on the Nokia Lumia Icon smartphone and the Wireless Charger have really made an improvement in how I live my life day to day. Check them out if you get the chance, I think you’ll find both as amazingly useful as I do!
