I participated in a Mother’s Day 2014 Ambassador Activation on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for the Northwestern Mutual Foundation. I received a promotional item to thank me for participating.
With Mother’s Day just around the corner, we’ve all got our moms on the brain (for good reason!) — and thanks to Northwestern Mutual Foundation, you can honor your mom for all the good she’s done and contribute to a great cause.
Mother’s Day 2014: Honor Your Mom
Between now and Tuesday, May 13, you can upload a picture of your Hero Mom to Twitter, Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #MyHeroMom — and for every post, like, tweet or share, (ALSF) up to $50,000 for childhood cancer research. (Check out this video for more info.)
I think all moms are heroes for the selfless service they provide their families, but childhood cancer touches thousands of extra-strong moms every day. Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children under age 15 in the United States and is still vastly underfunded, so programs like this one are so vital in developing life-saving cures for kids. I love that we can honor ALL mothers through #MyHeroMom, and by doing so we give a little extra support to those moms bravely battling against their children’s cancer.
This is MY hero mom, my own mother Caryn Payzant (she’s a blogger too!) We’ve always been close, but after I became a mom I think our relationship took on a whole new dimension. My mom is always there for me — whether I’m looking for advice on how to deal with a late-night fever, crying because I’m so frustrated by potty training a toddler, celebrating my baby’s new talent of crawling up the stairs or just calling to have a grown-up conversation. She was an amazing mother to me growing up, and I’m trying really hard to be half the woman she is to my kids. I’m excited for her to see this photo posted to the #MyHeroMom gallery, especially because she recently lost a friend to cancer and the donation to ALSF in Mom’s name is such a nice tribute.

What a beautiful campaign, and what a gorgeous photo of you and your mom. A mom blogger, how cool!
Great campaign! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
At 91 my Mom has lost her first husband (my Dad) to a heart attack. She lost her second husband to cancer. She struggled through my cousins thankfully winning battle with cancer, and friends who have had cancer. Not to mention she has skin cancer and is always getting it removed. How she stay with a positive attitude is amazing!–If I had something extra I would certainly give to this cause.
I think motherhood is also a blessing. This is such a fantastic program. Girl, don’t beat yourself up. Surely your mom felt exactly as you did at the time. 🙂
