This Party Ideas for Movie Night at Home food and drinks post is brought to you by Cost Plus World Market; all opinions are my own. #MovieLoversSweeps @WorldMarket
My husband and I don’t go to the movies often. It’s just too expensive for dinner and a movie, and those dollars could be better spent elsewhere. That doesn’t mean we don’t watch movies; we do, but we do family movie night at home. We stream videos rather than purchasing them and use the money we save to have a gourmet dinner or appetizers at home for less.
Tonight we did a Las Vegas themed date night because the movie we chose was “Last Vegas.” It gave me a chance to finally use that Vegas sign I insisted on buying at the airport on our way home from one of our trips to “Sin City”. I used it as my main centerpiece and filled out the table with goodies I picked up at my local craft store and World Market.

Party Ideas for Movie Night at Home: Food
I made a smoked salmon dip for my husband from World Market® Classic Smoked Alaskan Salmon and Mezzetta Capers and served them on Arnott’s Cheeseboard Cracker Assortment.
Since I’m a vegetarian, I added Northwoods Tomato and Basil Mini Cheese and Sonoma Jacks Garlic Herb Cheese plus World Market® Smoked Almonds and World Market Green Bean Chips to the menu. To make sure there was enough for the hubby to enjoy, I also added a sliced french baguette with World Market® Garlic Parmesan Dipping Oil, sweet red grapes, and decorated with two bags of Steenland Casino Coins made from sweet chocolate.
- 8 oz cream cheese
- 8 oz World Market® Classic Smoked Alaskan Salmon
- 2 tbl sour cream
- 1 dash Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp lemon zest
- ½ tsp garlic, finely chopped (about ½ clove)
- Dash black pepper
- World Market Capers
- Lemon wedges (garnish to squeeze over salmon)
- World Market Crackers
- Add cream cheese, 6 oz of salmon, sour cream, lemon zest, garlic, and pepper to food processor. Process until combined.
- Stir in the reserved salmon (flaked)
- Mold if desired or serve in small bowl.
- Garnish with lemon and small bits of salmon and capers.
- Serve with crackers or toast.
Party Ideas for Movie Night at Home: Drinks
We also had martinis, a must for a Vegas bash! Mine was a Frozen Virgin Lemon Drop, and the hubby had a traditional shaken Lemon Drop Martini. I purchased Stirrings Simple Lemon Drop Martini and Lemon Drop Rimmer from World Market as well as two tiny bottles of Vodka (our stores carry wine, beer, and liquor). I loved that they had airplane sized bottles since we only needed a few ounces.
For my non-alcoholic version, I mixed 3 oz of Stirrings Simple Lemon Drop Martini Mix with 3 oz of ginger ale and blended it with one cup of ice. I garnished with a lemon slice and a maraschino cherry. I cut a straw to fit, but I also enjoyed sipping from the sweet edge of the glass.
For the hubby’s, I mixed it according to the instructions and then used a Mini Stainless Steel Cocktail Shaker and served both of them in two generously sized Event Martini Glasses.
Party Ideas for Movie Night at Home: Kid-friendly Options
Our kids are over 21, but if you’ve got teens or tweens (the movie is rated PG-13), here are some options. For drinks, make the same Virgin Frozen Lemon Drop Martini I had – it was refreshing and sweet. Kids love fancy drinks in fun glasses – don’t forget the straws!
For popcorn choose from World Market® Lightly Salted Popcorn, White Cheddar Popcorn, or Kettle Corn. Serve it in popcorn boxes or bags (ours are reusable) or a large family-size bowl.
Family Movie Night Ideas: Serving & Ambiance
I chose to serve everything by candle light and purposely chose black, white, and gray to show off the rhinestones. I placed everything on a large Slate Cheese Board and then set out two Square Black Trilogy Salad Plates and Frost Gray Buffet Napkins with Silver Napkin Rings that I embellished for the evening.
Lighting was provided by a roaring fire, embellished Cocktail Tealight Candle Holders with magnolia scented Tealight Candles, and a pillar candle. I made sure the couch was cozy and filled with pillows and several throws, and then I invited my husband in to watch the movie. He loved it, and I loved having him to myself for a couple of hours.
We enjoyed the movie and spent some time reminiscing about trips we’ve taken to Vegas while we cleaned up. He used the leftover baguette and salmon dip for his lunch only he added a pickle and cheese. What can I say, he loved the smoked salmon dip!
