I have a new great-niece on the way! Paisley’s due date is April 1 and she’ll be my niece Katie’s first baby. It’s hard to believe Katie’s becoming a mom – it seems like just yesterday she was a tiny tot with big eyes. If you’re a regular reader, you’ve met Katie before. Katie’s a teacher who’s currently teaching a 5/6 split class. I’ve had the pleasure of being able to share school supplies with her and she’s attended many of the blog parties I’ve gotten to have. She’s also modeled for Laura, her sister and my blogging partner, a few times.
Since there are so many great sales going on now because of the holidays, I went shopping at my local Carter’s Store to pick up a few things for herupcoming baby shower. I chose Carter’s because they make great quality clothes that are affordable and they’re the clothes my kids grew up in. I know that they’re the ones we loved, that stood up to their playing, running, and jumping, and that I was able to pass on. They’re tough and beautiful and a brand I’m proud to give to my niece.
Carter’s clothing fits newborns, toddlers, and kids and sells everything from pajamas, jeans, shirts, tops, dresses, special occasion outfits, and more. They’re a complete baby store that sells clothing for all seasons year round. I think that’s what I love most about shopping there – I’m not limited to the current season. I can shop ahead to spring or summer in the middle of winter.
Baby Clothes: Shopping for Baby – Newborn
I started my shopping in the newborn section. Since Katie was a 10lb baby and our family tends to grow large babies, I skipped over the typical newborn section and looked for pieces a newborn could wear if she does tip the scale at 9+ pounds. I was drawn to the beautiful Poppy Blossom Layette collection and the one size sleep. I love the unique coral pink color and the designs.
I started with the 2-pack sleeper gowns ($12) – my boys lived in sleeper gowns their first few weeks of life. They make diapering for new parent’s so much easier. I added the 3-pack matching newborn mitten set ($8 & beats the socks we used on our boy’s hands), a 2-pack of matching baby booties ($15), and a 2-pack of swaddle blankets ($12) in the same sweet poppy blossom pattern. Swaddle blankets are a must-have for newborns. I finished off Paisley’s newborn outfits with a Mouse Security Blanket ($14) which has a soft cuddly blanket and a rattle in its head.
Baby Clothes: Shopping for Baby – Toddler
Because babies grow no matter how much we wish they’d stay little, I picked up a few things for when she’s a little older. Remembering that comfort comes first, I wanted pieces that coordinated easily and were cute, but not fussy. I fell in love with Carter’s Precious Pink collection because it fit all of my baby clothes buying criteria.
I picked up a set of short-sleeve 5-pack bodysuits ($16) – a great selection of polka dots, stripes, and solids in hot pink and navy – that could be worn alone or paired with pants, shorts, or a skirt. I chose these because they have expandable shoulders so they’re easy to pull on and off, have nickel-free snaps, no-scratch tag-free labels, and they’re 100% ribbed cotton for the baby’s comfort. I paired these with a 2-pack stretch leggings set in the same navy with white polka dot and hot pink. They’re 100% cotton interlock and so soft! The pull on style will make changing clothes easier and the bow and ruffle trim are just too cute. I finished the set with an adorable pointelle sweater knit cardigan ($24) in gray with pink trim.
There are so many fun coordinating pieces in this set, but I instantly fell in love with the Dolly Security Blanket ($14). As a baby, Katie carried around her “luvie” for years – it was a fragment of a blanket before long, but it was her prized possession. This is my nod to Katie’s beloved blue blankie. This security blanket is adorable and soft as silk and much cuter than that ragtag thing Katie took everywhere.

There was so much to choose from! I thought I’d share some of the things I loved but which didn’t make it home with me on this shopping trip.

So how’d I do? Think my new great-niece will look amazing in her new Carter’s clothes? Are you a Carter’s family?
I love Carter’s clothing. I have been purchasing them since my son was born 17 years ago. Three more girls since then, the youngest being 2 I’m still at it. The quality is great and they always have such a great selection and pricing!
I agree! It’s one of my all-time favorite brands.
