I received a gift card to purchase World Market Downton Abbey products to facilitate this event; all opinions are my own.
I had such an amazing time last Sunday! As part of World Markets Downton Abbey Virtual Tea Party, I celebrated in real life with some family members and their friends at my sister’s home. It took me a few days to get everything together, but it was worth all the work.
World Market Downton Abbey Tea Party – Prep
First, I shopped at World Market for food, drinks, plates, decorative items, and jewelry and headbands to set the mood for th party. I picked up everything from silver candlesticks and candles to cream and sugar servers. I spent a lot of time choosing fabulous pieces from World Market that I could use during the tea party but ones that could also be used in my home or for other parties in the future.
Once I got all my treasures home, I went about preparing for the party. First, I took the fabulous Victorian-style frames and added photos I’d printed from the Internet that I’d converted to sepia tones to the looked like they were printed in the 1900’s. I then made some games to play including a Downton Abbey Characters Wordsearch and a “Who Said It” quote game.

World Market Downton Abbey Tea Party – Tablescape
Once I arrived at my sister’s home, we started setting the table. First a white linen tablecloth and then layers of photos, flowers, plates, and more. I wanted to feature the Downton Abbey Christmas Crackers, so we placed them on each Downton Abbey dessert plate and then a tea cup was placed at each place setting. These tea cups were gifts for the party attendees as well as some other fun goodies that they took home in their reusable totes.
We added bottles of Downton Abbey wine to the table; some trinkets purchased at World Market that were given as prizes, like the crown compact seen in the photo below, and more to make it feel rich and full.
World Market Downton Abbey Tea Party – Food
Of course, we added sweets because it wouldn’t be a tea party without some biscuits! We had the Downton Abbey Luxury Assorted Shortbread Tin (we’ve eaten two of these – they’re a fabulous assortment of Walker’s Shortbread cookies including one variety with tiny chocolate chips), as well as adorable Downton Abbey Mincemeat Tarts, and Downton Abbey Plum Pudding. While I purchased two plum puddings, it turns out that we’ve grown too far from our English roots and it’s not a favorite, so we had leftovers which we gifted to a grateful friend.
World Market Downton Abbey Tea Party – Costumes
We had a costume contest and Canoe won with her flapper look. She was adorable and earned her prize of a bottle of Downton Abbey Sauvignon Blanc. Both wines were well received by our wine drinking participants.
My mother came as the Dowager with a shawl, headband, and bracelet from World Market. Every piece can be worn today and they’ll look fabulous.
Downton Tea Party Games
For the “Who Said It” game I took two sets of quotes and then made 3 wands for every person. They answered “Who Said It” by showing the wand of the person they thought made the statement. They each had one “free pass” with the house character to give them a second chance when they got their first wrong answer.
We competed until there was only one person left. I chose only two characters so that fanatics wouldn’t have a huge advantage over those who’ve never seen the show. In fact my sister came in second and she’s never seen an episode!
World Market Downton Abbey Tea Party – Wrap Up
Our party was so much fun and I’m sure there will be many more tea parties in our future. We’ve packed up the Downton Abbey Plates and Downton Abbey Teapot and will be sharing it around the family so all can enjoy it. Our only mistake was that we didn’t buy additional tea cups to store with them. Perhaps I’ll have to pick up a set of Downton Abbey Teacups and Saucers so we have them for the set.
With few exceptions, everything on the table was purchased at World Market. I loved being able to get absolutely everything I needed in one place.
Downton Abbey Christmas Crackers
We had a little mishap with the crackers. Some of us opened ours wrong so they didn’t “pop”. Canoe opened hers with so much fanfare she knocked over a glass of wine all over my mother. To say we had a lot of fun with them is an understatement!
Each Christmas Cracker included a small magic trick, a paper crown, and a small trinket. Mine was this tiny silver-colored frame.
We had a fabulous time and really enjoyed getting together to have some fun and giggles during the stressful holiday season. It was worth it to take a moment to slow down, enjoy some Republic of Tea Downton Abbey Tea and put our pinkies up!
Many of the World Market Downton Abbey products are still available online (some are even discounted) or you can check at your local store. They’re wildly popular so don’t put it off if you have a Downton fan who’d love them!
