There are two times a year that I feel the need to clean out the linen closet and that coincides with the changing of the sheets. Before you gasp, I meant the type of sheets, not that I only change my sheets twice a year!
In the spring it’s time to put on the cotton sheets and now the temps are in the teens, it’s time to change to flannel and jersey. But as much as I love the warmth and comfort of our winter sheets, I hate the smell they have after being stored for 6 months (I guess that’s why they had cedar closets back in the day).
When I change out the sheets, I take a day and wash everything in the linen closet. That also includes the holiday tablecloths, napkins, and guest sheets and towels. They all get refreshed and ready for upcoming celebrations. Having a closet full of fresh sheets and towels make it easier to put up an unexpected guest or family member.

I’ll be giving everything a good cleaning with ARM & HAMMER™ Ultra Power 4X Liquid Laundry Detergent. I love it because it’s concentrated which is better for the environment. That’s because they’re not transporting water-logged soap across the US which uses means using less fossil fuels. Plus it’s better for me because it’s perfume and dye free (though there are scented version if that’s your preference) and I did use the Refreshing Falls scent this year.
ARM & HAMMER™ Ultra Power 4X Liquid Laundry Detergent is safe for all of your washables and is easy to use. The conveniently shaped bottle is easy to pour. It seems like a small thing, but if you’ve ever dealt with a poorly designed pour spout you know the mess they can create.
While the bottle can handle up to 60 loads, I think I’ll be done in about 10. This year I’m weeding out all the too-small sheets (we no longer have a twin bed in the house but we’ve got a ton of sheets in that size) and hopefully the closet will be more organized as well as great smelling – wish me luck!
Have you started getting your house holiday ready? I’m curious what your biggest laundry challenge is – mine is just keeping up with the volume even though there are only two of us now – I swear it breeds in the laundry basket!
