I was provided a free download of Sesame Street Family Play to facilitate this review, but all opinions are 100% mine.
Ever been stuck in the car or in a restaurant (or even in your own home!) wishing you had a better way to entertain your kid than by sticking them in front of a screen? Coming up with real-life, active games for your kids is becoming a lost art thanks to technology, but Sesame Street has come to the rescue.
Sesame Street Family Play is a new app for the iPhone and iPad that allows you to pull up interactive family games whenever you need them. Just tell the app where you are and how many people are playing, and Family Play will give you the perfect game to play with your kids — there are more than 150 options! I LOVE this because once you read the game instructions, you don’t even need the screen anymore. All the games are interactive and interpersonal, so they get you and your kids playing together and having fun in “real life” — not online. There are games appropriate for all sorts of situations, from the doctor’s office to a restaurant to your living room.
I’ve tried a few with my preschooler so far and we love Monster Breath and Knock it Off. My son got a kick out of the Sesame Street characters “telling” him what to play. All games in the app encompass some area of child development including letters, numbers, science, self-regulation and executive function skills, social emotional, problem solving and critical thinking, imagination and creativity, and healthy habits — so no matter what you pick, you’re sure to find something that will be educational and fun for your kids (and parents too!).
