I had the pleasure of attending a virtual forum with Maggie L. Fox about the Climate Reality Project and their initiative, 24 Hours of Reality. Maggie spoke passionately about moms and women and their place in the world and as influencers. As women, we’re connectors, and she is harnessing that power to help get the word out about this important project. She’s also passionate about the project and hopeful that we can make a change.
The Climate Reality Project was founded and chaired by Al Gore, former Vice President and Nobel Laureate. The purpose was to spark the global cultural movement and it’s done just that. More than 5 million people around the world have been empowered to work to make changes. That’s pretty impressive.
Climate change isn’t going to happen in the future, it’s happening today. I know many don’t believe that. Even my husband believes that this warming trend is a natural occurrence in the cycle of the earth. I think he’s right, but I think I am as well. I believe it’s a combination of a natural cycle and humans; I honestly don’t see how we’re not affecting it. Since I can’t do anything about the natural warming of the earth, I have to focus on what I can change, and that’s my carbon footprint.
I’m hoping that if you believe it’s not us, it’s not happening, it’s not bad, or it’s too hard to make a change that you’ll take a moment to check out Reality Drop. It’s a page on the Climate Reality Project’s website that takes every common myth (or excuse) and explains scientifically why it’s wrong.
The Price of Carbon
Carbon pollution is more than an annoyance, it’s costly. Comedian and musician Reggie Watts lays out the billion-dollar connection between fossil-fuel energy and dirty weather events like Superstorm Sandy caused by carbon pollution.
24 Hours of Climate Reality
In one day visit six continents and see specific ways we’re paying for our carbon pollution. (see for details). Hosts and guests in each location will share what it is that’s happening in that locale as a result of our carbon use.
The online event begins at 11am PST on October 22 and for 24 hours former Vice President Al Gore and The Climate Reality Project will share how we’re paying for carbon pollution and how we can solve it. I hope you’ll join me on that day.
That same day join me and The Motherhood at 2pm ET for a Twitter Party – follow the hashtag #ClimateReality.
