Buying jewelry for a plus size woman isn’t as easy as walking into your favorite department store and walking out with a gift. That’s because the majority of the jewelry sold in large departments stores is meant for average size women, and it will be too small for a plus size woman. Stretch bracelets and other one-size-fits-most pieces will not fit either.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t find quality jewelry that’s perfect for a larger woman, you just have to know where to shop. Stores that carry plus size jewelry are many of the same stores that carry plus size fashion, so they’re aware of the unique sizing and design needs of the plus size figure.
Plus Size Jewelry Buying Guide
Women’s wrist sizes:
- Small (petite): 5-3/4″ or less
- Average: 6- to 6-3/4″
- Large: 7″ or more
Determine Bracelet Size:
- Tight Fit (cuff, small beads, and thin chains): Add 1/2″ to your base wrist measurement.
- Standard Fit (most bracelets): Add up to 1″.
- Loose Fit (toggles, chunky bead, and stretchy charm bracelet styles): Add between 1-1/4″ and 1-1/2″
Most Plus Size Bracelets are 8″, but they can be found at some retailers up to 11″. Link bracelets can be custom made to any length as can cut-your-own chains.

Best Bracelets for Plus Size Women
Choose a bracelet that has some substance to it. A dainty chain will get lost on a plus sized wrist and will accentuate the fullness of the hand and wrist instead of looking balanced. That doesn’t mean you have to wear chunky, oversized jewelry. If you like a dainty chain, wear it with other bracelets for a layered look or with a watch.
Generally plus size is considered size 14-24 though I’m more comfortable saying 18-26 for these bracelet sizes. Retailers like Lane Bryant and Catherine’s are a great place to find appropriately sized jewelry for women. Walmart carries some larger size rings that are very inexpensive, but I haven’t found that many other retailers have followed their lead yet.
