I received a Little Mermaid Diamond Edition to facilitate this review; all opinions are my own. #littlemermaidevent
Disney’s popular movie, “[amazon_link id=”B00C7607BC” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]The Little Mermaid[/amazon_link],” is finally available on Blu-ray and digital download in a new Diamond Edition. In addition to a remastered film, the new package includes some great specials features.
Little Mermaid Diamond Edition Special Features

Carly Rae Jepsen sings “Part of Your World” on the Blu-ray
Music Video: It feels wrong to have someone else sing Ariel’s iconic song, “Part of This World, ” but the current Disney popstar, Carly Rae Jepson does just that in a music video. Her version is more Broadway-esc than the film’s original version by Jodi Benson. Still, Jepsen’s version is fine.
Disney Intermission – a fun feature on Disney Blu-rays. Pause the film for some movie-specific entertainment. On this film, Sebastian Crab-E-oke’s his favorite songs which include “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” “Kiss the Girl,” “Under the Sea,” and more.
Under the Scene Featurette: John Musker and Ron Clements narrate a commentary about how they used live models to help the animators create realistic movement in their characters. They’re joined by Kathryn Beaumont who shares her story of how she was a live model for her characters Wendy from “Peter Pan” and Alice from “Alice in Wonderland.” They finish the featurette by comparing footage between the live action and the animated scenes they created from them.

Walt Disney Animation Featurette: A fun featurette inside Walt Disney Animation Studios. It’s a chance to learn more about the animators who brought these and many more Disney characters to life. Find out what inspired them to follow their dreams.
Deleted Character: Meet Harold the Merman, a character loved by Ron Clements and John Musker. Even this powerhouse duo couldn’t prevent him from being cut from the film. He’s an unfortunate soul who didn’t keep up his bargain with Ursula the Sea Witch.

Lunchtime Lecture: This is a rare jewel. Thankfully someone thought to tape this talk Howard Ashman gave. It’s a look into the animation of the era and what they were doing and what it was like to join the Disney family. It also includes some voice recording sessions with him and Benson.

Jodi Benson’s Voyage to New Fantasyland: The voice of Ariel, Jodi Benson, visits the New Fantasyland at Walt Disney World with her family. While they experience the park, Benson shares what it’s meant to her to be a part of this piece of history.

This has always been one of my favorite Disney movies. I love Sebastian the Crab such a funny character.
