I received a copy of Country Living Spooky & Bright: 101 Halloween Ideas to facilitate this review; all opinions are my own.
Country Living Spooky & Bright: 101 Halloween Ideas is a small, spiral bound book filled with Halloween decorating inspiration from the creative minds at the Country Living Magazine. I love that the book is spiral instead of traditionally bound so it’s easy to reference while working on a project.
Wicked Smart Pumpkin Ideas
As with any Halloween project book, there’s an abundance of ideas for pumpkins (the chapter is cleverly called, “Wicked Smart Pumpkins”). You’ll find ideas for painted, carved, etched, and my favorite, decoupage pumpkins. I love that most of the ideas can be done on real pumpkins or to use year to year, on faux pumpkins. If you’re a Pinterest addict like me, you’ve likely seen many of these ideas there as they’re wildly popular and shared frequently; however, there are plenty in the book that are new to me and have really inspired me to do some Halloween decoration this year as well.
Spooky Can Be Sophisticated
The most inspiring projects for me are in the “spooky can look sophisticated “realm where they’ve used antique bird cages, wall hangings, and more to elevate the décor out of the kid-centered type decorations. But don’t worry, there are plenty of those as well.
Devilishly Delicious Halloween Treats
Plus there’s an entire section of “Devilishly Delicious Treats” which include super simple recipes including Roasted Pumpkin Seeds, Apple Cider Punch ( a concoction of apple cider, white grape juice, sparkling apple cider, orange juice, anise, sliced apple, and dark rum for the adults), Triple-Dipped S’mores Apples (apples dipped in melted marshmallows, chocolate, and then graham crackers), and Oozing Chocolate Topping for your favorite Halloween cake.
Country Living Spooky & Bright: 101 Halloween Ideas also provides fun and easy decorating ideas on how to transform store bought sweets into Halloween specialties, plus party tips, and more.
The book provides patterns for many of the pieces which can be enlarged on a copier and step-by-step instructions for those project that require it.
I’m ready to get crafting – how about you? Will you be making Halloween goodies this year?
