My Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends fans

We are BIG Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends fans in this house — the photo above is from last month, when we took my three-year-old Jack to ride Thomas at a nearby train station. Jack’s wooden trains and tracks are hands-down the toys played with most frequently around here. Whenever I hear Thomas news, I have to share it so all you parents can get in on the action too — so listen up: the Thomas & Friends show has joined PBS‘ online and mobile platforms!

Full episodes of Thomas & Friends are now available on pbskids.org/video and on the PBS KIDS Video App, so now your little Thomas fans can watch the show anytime, anywhere.  Plus, pbskids.org now offers a new Thomas & Friends site with online activities and downloadable content at pbskids.org/thomasandfriends. They’ve got fun games on there like Track Builder, Steam Team Snapshots where you can make a picture with your favorite engine, Tangled Rail Trails where you put together a Thomas & Friends story, and Track Repair.

The Thomas & Friends channel on the PBS KIDS Video App will show four full episodes that will rotate each Friday.  (Did you know the Thomas & Friends TV series is moving to PBS KIDS’ weekday schedule on October 7? Our DVR is already set. ) Also, the Thomas & Friends site has plenty of interactive elements for kids along with companion sites filled with activities, resources, and educational content for parents and teachers. I like the parent section, which has the series’ learning goals and family activity ideas. And, when you read on the site about how Thomas has captivated the imagination of children for generations and encourages good manners, hard work, and a desire to be “really useful” — how can you not love that little blue engine?

There you have it — your weekly Thomas update, straight from PBS. Gather your little engineers and check it out!
