Hotels in Carmel, CA – Hofsas House Hotel
I recently had the chance to visit Carmel, California and while there, I was fortunate to experience the European influenced inn called Hofsas House Hotel. Located just four blocks from most of the wineries and eateries in town, the Hofsas House Hotel it is in an excellent location for experiencing this beautiful city.
Hofsas House Hotel has been a family-owned inn since 1957 when it was opened by Donna Hofsas and her husband, Fred. Since 2000, it’s been owned and operated by Donna’s granddaughter, Carrie Theis. Theis is a wealth of information about the history of Carmel, as well as a fabulous guide to the activities available to guests in and around Carmel.
The Hofsas House Hotel is a boutique inn and each room is uniquely decorated. This isn’t a chain hotel where every room is identical. They aim to make you comfortable by providing free wireless Internet, designated dog-friendly rooms, pool, dry sauna, and view deck.

Our king size bed was made with high-count linens and countless pillows – we definitely got a good night’s sleep here.
Next to the bed was a working wood-burning fireplace, which is very rare these days, and a great addition to some of the rooms at Hofsas House. What a romantic addition to a cold winter’s night.
The bathroom is large and has a heated floor for your comfort because really, who likes cold toes after a hot shower! There are plenty of big fluffy towels plus quality shampoo, lotion, and conditioner which made for a luxurious atmosphere.
From our door we had a peek-a-boo view of the ocean and of the Inn’s pool which is kept heated to comfortable 80 degrees. The Inn’s continental breakfast is sourced from local bakeries and provided in the lobby (which also has a working fireplace). Feeling romantic? The Hofsas House allows you to take a tray back to your room for breakfast in bed if you like.
The Hofsas House Hotel is a wonderful place to stay right in the heart of Carmel. I will certainly stay here again. The charm is unbeatable.

Charming, but I’m very plain jane. I would prefer to camp. I know I’m totally strange lol
I used to camp, now I prefer a bed 🙂
Very charming. I like that they have kept a lot of the quaint charm and feel while still bringing in amenities like pool, sauna, and internet.
what a lovey hotel! very charming and the bathroom looks nice and roomy for a hotel bathroom! and i really like the option of taking a try of food back up to your room (especially if you have a fireplace!)
I love places with boutique style rooms like this. They are so much more welcoming than the traditional cookie cutter places.
What a beautiful place! I like that you can take breakfast back to your room.
This looks so quaint I would love to stay there. I love the sign about coming whenever you come, that is too cute.
What a very beautiful place to visit and stay in such a gorgeous and sunny room. I sure like this Hotel and would love to stay here and experience it for myself. What a great place to visit and to go out walking and check out the places that are around there!
Isn’t it beautiful? I’ll admit. I’m a little green with envy at my son’s trip there.
