My transportation, hotel, and incidental expenses will be covered by Disney while in LA. All opinions are my own.
I’m so excited to be going to the Los Angeles premiere of Disney’s newest animated film, Planes! I almost turned it down. It’s just days before my son’s wedding, but he’ll understand. He and his wife-to-be are taking a 14-day Disney Cruise for their honeymoon – I don’t need to explain to them why I chose to go.
I’m not sure what it is about the Planes movie that has me so intrigued. Perhaps is the fact that I love [amazon_link id=”B004I654WQ” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Cars [/amazon_link]and this feels similar in that everyday objects are given a life of their own. That’s a theme I’ve loved since I was a child snuggled under the cover reading The Borrowers.
The Little Mermaid Diamond Edition Release
In addition to attending the premier, I’ll have an amazing opportunity to interview Jody Benson. She’s the voice of Ariel in [amazon_link id=”B0036TGT2A” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]The Little Mermaid[/amazon_link]. The film is being re-released as a Diamond edition on October 1, 2013.
The original Little Mermaid film released Thanksgiving of 1989. I was a new mother back then and I left my almost -2-year old son home with my husband and I sat in that darkened theater with my 4-year old on my lap. I’m not sure which I watched more – the look on his face or the screen. I loved every one of his giggles and laughs and melted every time he clung to me in the scary scenes. He fell in love with the story of the scary witch as he called her and the princess.
We’ve owned every version of the Little Mermaid since it first came out and even though they’re adults now, both of my boys will sing along to the songs from the movie should they hear them. They’re not embarrassed in the slightest to be Disney movie fans!
I’ll admit, seeing the movie makes me cry – it is so bitter sweet and filled with remembrances. Someday I hope to have the same experience with a grandchild. Until then I have my memories and there are always new ones to make. While I’m in LA I’ll get to see a sneak peek of their upcoming theatrical release FROZEN as well as tour the archives at the Disney Animation Research Library. The ARL is a magical place full of original artwork from all of the Disney films. It’s a real honor to be invited inside to view this priceless collection of Disney history.
I’ll also be meeting some of the stars from Super Buddies, the newest movie in the franchise of puppy movies. I’m expecting that to be a lick fest!

Wow! This sounds like such an exciting trip to take to see Disney Planes premiere in California. You are going to have a blast, and I will check to see what you have posted on Facebook. I also love the Little Mermaid movie! I can not wait to see Disney Planes because I like so many of their movies. Have a great trip!
Thanks Karen! Do you have a question for Barbi Benton? I’d love to know what you’d ask her.
Excited to see you there girlie!!!
I’m looking forward to seeing you again too!
What a great chance! It sounds like your son will understand (as long as you make it for the rehearsal dinner). Have lots of fun…
No rehearsal dinner – it’s just the two of them and the officiant. No attendants at all. Standing at the shore of the river in the State Park they live in. VERY simple.
Have fun at the premier!! I will be watching your updates!
