I was provided sample of Kashi Steam Meals for Two to facilitate this review – all opinions are my own.
I’ve been choosing Kashi® products for years. In fact, I’ve been a fan since they first hit my supermarket shelves in the late 1980s. They were pioneers in the natural lifestyle section of the grocery stores long before eating healthier became more mainstream. I’ve always loved that Kashi works to provide minimally processed foods which are free from artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives.
I’ve loved their breakfast cereals and frozen waffles for years. But what I didn’t know is that you can find Kashi brands foods in the freezer section in the main dish aisle too! They have a full line of frozen foods under the Kashi Steam Meals for Two line. These frozen entrees use the power of microwave steam to cook the meals right in the bag.
Kashi Steam Meals for Two
To the lineup which already included Kashi Chicken and Chipotle BBQ, Italian Vegetable Medley Pasta, and others, the company has added two new varieties. The two vegetarian-friendly entrees are Mushroom and Asparagus Risotto and Three Cheese Ravioli.
Kashi Steam Meals for Two – Taste Test
So how do they taste? The Three Cheese Ravioli has a deep, dark sauce which tastes like it’s been simmered for hours on the stove. The cheese is light and the ravioli delicious (I did add shredded parmesan cheese out of habit – it didn’t need the additional cheese). Is it as good as homemade? Of course not, but for a quick and easy dinner for two it’s a good choice. The same for the Mushroom and Asparagus Risotto. The mushroom gives it a rich flavor and it’s certainly easier than making homemade risotto. The asparagus is surprisingly cooked just right and not overdone.
Kashi Steam Meals for Two are quick, easy, and convenient meals that are meant to be cooked in the microwave in their plastic bag. I’m not a fan of the microwave and especially cooking in plastic, so I’m thankful that Kashi offers alternative heating directions for those of us limiting microwave and plastic exposure. I cooked one on the stove but the second in the microwave as the package instructed. I didn’t notice any issues with then entrée cooked on the stove.
Kashi Steam Meals are available nationwide in the frozen aisle of grocery and natural food retailers for a suggested retail price of $6.95.

Yum! This dish looks really yummy. My mom and I would be interested in trying this.
It is your birthday coming up! I read in in a previous post! Happy Birthday to you. I have tried these Kashi meals only because Walmart had them marked down and I had a coupon. I liked them! They tasted just fine, and they are very healthy. I need to try it again! But, I do have to say that I do not like Kashi cereal.
I have loved Kashi foods for several years now. Like you I appreciate they are free from artificial ingredients. I did not know about these steam meals I will have to try these soon.
Years ago I made Kashi (and all of it’s fine variations) the official cereal in our house. After a skeptical comments, it was universally declared to be the best.
Last year, just before events led to a TOTAL diet transformation, I decided to push the envelope, go for broke and I bought a Kashi (frozen and meatless) Pizza! The plan was to get it into the oven and dispose of the incriminating (prejudicial!) packaging before anyone was the wise.
Of course, I was caught red-handed once again subject to serious skeptism – even worse seeing as “cereal is one thing… But PIZZA!!! Is nothing sacred???
Much to even my surprise, everyone loved it – and it’s been a staple in our freezer ever since. But since I pretty much never by those socalled frozen “entrees” – for pretty much every reason you can think of … But there are emergency situations situations when I need a hot, relatively healthy and “tasty” meal.
Since you and I seem to be on the same wave length on these matters (and we happen to love both good raviolis and risottos… I going to check these out because it’s hard to find decent “meals-in-minutes” products to have on hand.
Just one concern /question: I have this strong suspicious that these are not “meals for two” – at least when my Honey/Hubby is one of them… What do you think?
(“How do you handle a hungry man???”)
Thanks Connie – and Happy Birthday right around now!)
Ah, thanks for the birthday wishes – I made it another year and celebrated on Saturday. As for the hungry man, I have one too and yes, you’ll need to serve a big hearty salad, a vegetable, and a bread to round out the meal. My hubby could easily eat them by themselves with none left over for me! 🙂
