I got the chance to go back to college just a few weeks ago and today I finally get to tell you about it! Pixar and Disney invited me to become a freshman at Monsters University on the Pixar campus in Emeryville, CA.
Monsters University Campus Day
We started the day like most college students – standing in line to get our student IDs under the banners of the campus fraternities. But there wasn’t time for pledging, we had a full class schedule!
I’ll share what I learned in those classes with you later, but first we headed to the star-filled screening room (seriously, the ceiling has shooting stars – it’s amazing) where we had the pleasure of watching the first 40 minutes of “Monsters University.” Check out this brand new clip just released today; I think you’ll see why I loved the sneak peek so much!

But it wasn’t all books and tests; we had some fun too! The student lounge sported a video game, ping pong table and blue Solo cups – yes, typical college fun! We also had lunch out in the quad where a Monsters U pep rally was going on complete with marching band and cheerleaders. Thankfully, cafeteria food has come a long way and our picnic outside was delicious and a real treat in the warm California sun.
As the lunch time wound down we watched as fellow classmates play football and corn hole and then it was back to class and a full afternoon of instruction. First up was our scream final which I aced. In fact, I was top of the class! Then a tour of the Pixar campus.
Unfortunately, most of the Pixar campus is top secret so photos were not allowed. Let’s just say the campus is amazing and they make working there pretty darn pleasant including having an amazing swimming pool, soccer field, and gym available for their employees. The Pixar buildings are very whimsical and filled with art and you’ll find plenty of welcoming places to encourage collaboration and creativity.
Class complete and graduation done, we took our party bus (complete with stripper pole) back to the hotel and readied ourselves to visit the Walt Disney Family Museum the next day. It was my second visit to this amazing tribute to Walt and his family.
