It’s so easy to make someone’s day. I got the chance earlier this week when I presented my mom with her own Keurig coffee maker. You see she’s been coveting mine since it arrived and when the “kids” said they’d be taking it with them when they move out next week, she was a bit despondent. I know that she’d shopped for one a time or two, but just couldn’t decide on which model and I think she secretly hoped that the kids would give them hers. That’s never, ever, going to happen.
So when I got the chance to review Keurig® OfficePRO® Single-Cup Commercial Coffee Brewer. I knew exactly who’d be doing the review. My 70+ year old mom. First though, I had to tease her a bit. I told her she needed to come over right away because I had something she really, really wanted. To say she must have driven over the speed limit to get here would be an understatement – she was knocking at my door almost before I got to set up my little trick.
She should have known that since it was April Fool’s week that I was pulling her leg, but when I told her new review item was on the island in the kitchen, I followed her in to see her face drop as she saw some office products. Almost instantly she recovered and tried to hide the look of disappointment on her face. But, I couldn’t help myself….I gave her a hard time for being disappointed. “What, those aren’t good enough for you?” She looked at me sheepishly and said, “Sure.”
It was then that I revealed that the Keurig machine on the island was hers. She looked at me in utter disbelief and I swear I saw a tear. My mother takes her coffee VERY seriously. She’d assume all along that was the kids’ machine since it was in the usual place, but I’d hidden theirs under the kitchen island, and the boxes from her machine under the dining room table.
Home or Office Ready
This new machine now resides at her house where it’s happily brewing Starbucks Breakfast Blend one cup at a time. And the best part is that she brews it just the way she likes it – very weak – by adjusting the amount of water (6oz, 8oz or 10oz) vs coffee. This is Keurig coffee brewer has a 48 oz reservoir so it needs to be refilled every 4-6 cups, but because it’s their commercial grade brewer, it’s meant to do a larger volume (about 10 times that of a home users) so it’s perfect for an office as well. It auto turns off after 2 hours of non-use which is a safety feature I love.
It’s easy to use – just turn it on, let it heat up (about a minute), and then when the brew light illuminates, press it and your cup is brewed in about a minute. Mom reports that the machine works brilliantly and that she ALMOST had to get the instruction booklet out, but she figured out the process pretty easily.
We’ve talked about how to keep the unit clean and how to descale it should it become necessary. Thankfully we don’t have a huge scale problem here in Seattle, but using filtered water can help with that should that be an issue in your area. There’s also a descaling feature for those who need it to keep the machine functioning properly. If you have any issues with it not brewing correctly, check the instruction book or online at the Keurig site for help in fixing the issue.
The unit weighs 14 lbs but I had no problem handling it myself. It’s a low profile at 13.3” high x 9.5”w x 12.3” deep.
Purchase the Keurig Office Pro at Staples – online and in store. Staples carries a full line of K-cups including the Starbucks Breakfast Blend. A sampler pack is shipped with the machine so you can try out the coffees, teas, hot chocolates and more available in convenient K-cups.
