Luckily there are better options. One way we could improve our energy use is to put in a fireplace insert or convert to a pellet stove. Both are available from Harman™. They make premium pellet stoves and inserts which are “Built to a standard, not a price.” Their forged inserts and stoves are created to produce even heat with advanced technology and to be easy to maintain – ah, doesn’t that sound wonderful!

What I love about the Harman™ products is that they’re good looking. They’ve got plenty of glass so you can still see the fire, enjoy the ambiance, while still remaining fuel-efficient. These are not the ugly fireplace inserts of the past. In fact, they are available is so many styles and sizes there’s one for every home.

The Harman Pellet Stoves and inserts are a popular heating alternative and would be my choice because of their fuel efficiency. The biomass fuel they use is made from renewable and carbon-neutral products so they’re a much more eco-friendly option and that’s important to me. If we’re going to make an investment in our fireplace, I want it to be one that benefits my neighbors and the earth, too!

But there’s also a financial incentive to upgrade to biomass fuel.  Thanks to the extension of the federal tax credit which provides for a 10% tax credit up to $300 on qualifying biomass heating appliances (see Internal Revenue Service Section 25C) on purchases made from 1/1/12 to 1/31/13, I could save a bundle! That’s fantastic and certainly an incentive for me to have a conversation with my husband about making the change.

I’m going to be pushing for an insert here so snuggling up on cold nights won’t have to be at the expense to the environment.

How do you stay warm when winter hits? Have you checked out the Harman Pellet Stoves?
