As a child we strung popcorn and cranberries with sewing needles and thread. At the time I loved them, but as my world broadened, I saw that most people had store bought decorations and I began to think of ours as cheap and tacky. Little did I know that 40 some years later I’d realize I love the nostalgia of these berries carefully created into Christmas decorations and this year I’ve vowed to make a few.
Not only do I love cranberries, but the color is one of my favorites. I have Christmas china that we’ve only used once. I’m insisting I use this year and these cranberry crafted items will look fabulous with them. Of course I’ll have to do some tweaking – first because although I love the silver accents in these, my plates have gold trim and I’ve just purchased gold charger plates to go under them. And we have a resident house cat that will likely think these were made for his enjoyment, so I’ll have to do some research to see if they’re harmful to him before embarking on any crafting.
While I’m still laid up in bed sick, I’m collecting my favorite Christmas decorating ideas and keeping them safe until I feel well enough to start moving on them.
I love the mix of colors and natural elements in these holiday cranberry crafts. What do you think about decorating with cranberries? Sweet and elegant or tacky?
