I felt a tiny bit guilty that while the northeast side of the US was bracing for Hurricane Sandy, here in the Pacific Northwest I was gathered with my family for game night. While I’m sending good thoughts and positive vibrations to everyone in the Northeast, I will tell you we had a great time.
We love board games and tonight my husband and I had my son, his brand new fiancé, and my mom over. We’d planned on my oldest son being here as well, but he and his girlfriend decided to head to Hawaii for 10-days. I want his life. 🙂
Since we couldn’t get together until 7pm because of our youngest son’s work schedule, I decided to serve my favorite meal – appetizers!!! What?!? You don’t consider appetizers a meal? I do! And it’s my favorite part of dinner and sometimes the only part. As a vegetarian I’ve gotten used to making a complete meal out of finger food at restaurants with a limited menu. Plus they’re lighter fare because some of the game players have to be up at 5:30am. No one wants to go to bed with a heavy meal in their belly.
My mom is Sam’s Club fanatic so when I heard she was going to shop there, I asked her to pick up some Daily Chef Bruschetta for tonight (you can see her shopping trip here). I love bruschetta and have made it a time or two, but I wasn’t going to be able to find time to cook before the kids came over.
Sam’s Club Daily Chef Chicken and Bacon Bruschetta
Heating the Daily Chef Bruschetta was a breeze – just 15 minutes in the oven – and while it was cooking I made a vegetable/potato chip recipe dip, washed and cut veggies, and laid out the drinks and dinnerware. By the time I was finished with my tasks, the bacon and chicken bruschetta was golden brown and bubbly – perfect! All I had to do was have my mother take it out of the oven and plate it. So simple!
While we ate we played a new game, I’ve forgotten the name and it wasn’t much of a hit with us. After we finished it we played a tried-and-true game that we love. Hubby started the fire, I lit the flameless candles, the pups joined us for the game (I think there was some cheating going on between my son and my dog), and generally just had a really fun time.
Family Board Game Night
We can’t wait for our next board game night. There’s a new game the family is dying to buy but there’s a wait list for it. I’ve got to say that makes me happy. It means that not everyone has turned to electronic devices to entertain. With projected power outages all over the east coast due to the storm, I’m guessing a lot of people will get back in touch with the beloved family activity.
Oh, and the bruschetta? Rated FABULOUS by all of our meat eaters. It came with two large packs and they ate one between the four of them, so we have another bag for another night….that is if they make it that long. I made the mistake of mentioning that if you put two together with a spinach leaf in the middle and then put it in our pannini press, it’d probably take 3-4 minutes to cook and be delicious. I think they’ll disappear quickly. Now if they’d only make one without meat for me!
Have you tried the Bruschetta at Sam’s Club? I’m curious how you liked it and what you served it with. I’d love some new ideas.

Enjoyed your post. We are a board game or wii or movie night family who go with appetizers, too. I’ll have to try the bruschetta. Our staples are pizza bagels, pot stickers, and fried wontons.
It was a nice change and so much lighter than pizza. Pot stickers and wontons sound good too!
We have a Sams club and I do like them when I have to buy something in bulk. They have tasting days here also and I love to go then and try new things out.
I’m told these were fabulous. I’m the token vegetarian in the house so none for me ;(
I’m embarrassed to admit that I live in the Pacific NW and I have no clue what Sam’s Club is! AGH! I’m assuming this is like a Costco-type store?
Appetizers work for us as a meal too! No sorry have not tried the Bruschetta at Sam’s Club
We like to play a game of Chess around here, we have 3 sets when the family gets bored or a brood of teens show up. Will pick up the Bruschetta on my next trip to Sam’s Club, always looking for a good appetizer to feed the friends stopping by.
