The Princess Bride on Blu-ray - 25th Anniversary Edition

It seems hardly possible that director Rob Reiner’s silly fairy tale movie, “The Princess Bride,” is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a new release on Blu-ray. It seems like just yesterday I saw this film in the theatre and instantly fell in love with the silly slapstick style and goofy love story. It’s definitely a movie that’s weathered well and is just as funny today as it was when it was released in 1987.

I rediscovered the film when my own boys were teens with the 2007 DVD release and that time I saw the movie through the eyes of a parent; and I still loved it. There are so many memorable scenes and iconic dialog and a fun story line.

The cast includes Robin Wright (Forrest Gump), Cary Elwes (No Strings Attached), Mandy Patinkin (“Homeland”) Billy Crystal (Tooth Fairy), Christopher Guest (For Your Consideration), and Chris Sarandon (Fright Night).

The Princess Bride 25th Anniversary Blu-ray comes loaded with special features which include a new featurette “True Love: The Princess Bride Phenomenon” in which Reiner, Wright, Elwes, Wright, Goldman (screen writer/writer), Sarandon, Guest, and executive producer Norman Lear share their feelings on the film and what they believe it means to pop culture. This two-part feature also includes touching tributes and never-before-seen dailies, as well as the cast’s favorite fan encounters.

The Blu-ray features continue with audio commentary by Reiner and Goldman, a video diary by Elwes, The Art of Fencing featurette, Fairytales and Folklore featurette, and more.

Pick up the The Princess Bride 25th Anniversary on Blu-ray and spend the night reliving this hilarious fairytale!
