The Art of Dessert Shooters

Not be confused with shots or savory shooters served as appetizers  these are sweet treats that can be served for dinner or at a cocktail hour. They’re tiny in size, generally 2-5 ounces at most, and just a bite or two so that guests can enjoy 2-3 different desserts instead of one. Shooter glasses come in all shapes – tall and round, short and square, and everything in between. They’re also available in glass or plastic. I recommend glass because they’re better for the environment and they’re sturdier and easier to work with.

Spoons – shooters require small spoons and demitasse spoons or special dessert spoons work best. They appear child-sized but they fit perfectly into the shooter glass. In the last few years Push Pop Containers have grown in popularity, but while they’re cute, they lack the sophistication of the glass shooters. I think we’ll see them relegated to children’s parties soon.

Have you tried making your own shooters? I’ll be making several this year for the holidays and I’ll be sharing them with you. I can’t wait to get the holidays started!
