A survey we commissioned indicates that while 97 percent of teens know texting while driving is dangerous, 43 percent of them admit to sending a text while driving — and 75 percent say the practice is common among their friends.
Tell them. Show them. Stop them. Distracted driving kills and texting while driving falls into that category. Show your teens, your friends, your loved ones, and strangers the video below. Thank the people who bared all by showing them that their message is being heard. For me. For you. For your children.
AT&T Don’t Text While Driving Documentary
Download the FREE AT&T DriveModeTM App to set your phone to remind you that NO text is worth dying for and more importantly NO TEXT is worth KILLING or harming an innocent person for.
How to Use the AT&T DriveMode App
Texting takes your attention off the road for an average of 5 seconds? If you’re travelling at 55 mph, that’s the equivalent of driving blind the length of a football field and that’s not acceptable. AT&T offers a free app to help you resist the temptation to text/talk while driving with AT&T DriveMode. When downloaded and activated, AT&T DriveMode automatically sends a customizable reply to incoming texts – notifying the sender that the user is driving and unable to respond. The auto-response is similar to an “out-of-office” email alert. It also allows you to preprogram five “emergency” numbers that can get through and 911 is always available for outgoing calls.
Sadly the app is only available for AT&T customers and requires a compatible device. Download the app at the Android Market, BlackBerry App World™and AT&T AppCenter, with more supporting operating systems planned in the coming months.
I did a quick search and couldn’t find a similar app by the other cell providers. Let’s hope they take AT&T’s lead and develop ones for their users. Until then, please use self-restraint and drive safely.
Not convinced that texting is dangerous? Visit the online driving simulator at www.itcanwait.com and experience the dangers of texting while driving. Then take the pledge. I did.
Great message!
Hopefully other comapnies will add it.
There is no text worth dying or killing for. Thank you for sharing this very important message!
Thanks for spreading awareness!
This is so important. I’ll admit that I do tend to be a bit distracted but texting while driving is just a plain no-no.
This is an extremely important message! Thank you so much for sharing!
I hope its a trend to catch on soon and other cell phone provides jump on board texting while driving is so dnagerous
I’m really hoping others develop a similar app and make it available – especially if they make it so parents can set it remotely for their teens.
I wish it was illegal across the nation ….
Ten years ago I used to be an idiot and text and drive all the time. Thankfully, I’ve grown up and started using my brain. I get so upset when I see people do it now.
It makes me so mad when I see someone doing this… and every single time they are driving horribly!
Very important message here. I try my best to not use my phone when I am driving.
This is such an important message!
I used to text or check emails/twitter while in slow traffic, thinking it was fine. I never had an accident or anything, but one day I realized I was being really stupid…I think that these campaigns are really necessary! Sometimes we think it’s no big deal, but we really do need to focus 100% on the road!
This is a very important message!
This is so senseless. I wish people would control themselves and just realize there is nothing worth texting for when driving. I even pull off the road and park to use my cell phone to talk to someone.
It is the law here, and I am surprised to see how many people are on their phones every day. Awful!
