What to Expect when You’re Expecting

Every woman who has ever been pregnant has heard of Heidi Murkoff’s book, What to Expect when You’re Expecting.  This pregnancy tome is considered the bible among pregnancy books so when Lionsgate released the film version of the book, I was curious to see just how they would take such an informative guide book and translate it to the big screen into a film.

I was pleasantly surprised, as was my husband, with the movie version of ‘What to Expect When Your Expecting’. If you have ever been pregnant you will find this movie to be extremely heartfelt and funny.  I especially loved the fact that all of the couples in this movie have their story intertwined with another.  The film was extremely relatable for my husband and I and we both shared in laughter, as well as tears.

The star studded cast includes Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Elizabeth Banks, Brooklyn Decker, Anna Kendrick, Matthew Morrison, Chace Crawford, Dennis Quaid, Chris Rock and Rodrigo Santoro.

I think one of the major successes of this film is the way the couples are portrayed, no matter what your situation is or was you will find yourself relating to at least one couple.  This makes for an extremely realistic approach to parenthood and pregnancy.  My husband especially loved the Men’s Group – every Saturday the husbands take their children out for a walk and it’s a time for the Dads to vent and share stories about fatherhood.  I loved the women’s personalities and stories.  I fell in love with Elizabeth Banks’ character who is crazily trying to get pregnant after trying for two years and Anna Kendrick’s one night stand that turns into a life-changing situation.

This is not in the least bit a chick flick and I guarantee any person who has tried to get pregnant, been pregnant, or wants to be pregnant along with their significant other will find this film extremely personal.  I loved every bit of this and I am so happy that I was given the opportunity to review this movie.
