Cookies by Design has been around for over 30 years and I’ve ordered them as gifts several times in the past, but until today I’d not had a chance to try them out myself. I received a knock at the door when I was feeling a little blue and I was rewarded at answering with a paper bag with a cookie bouquet peeking out the top. It’s amazing how quick your mood can change when a gift arrives at the door!
I loved the festive look of the cookie packaging and marveled and the iced details on the cookies. They’re exquisitely made and cooked to perfection. Each of the 120 Cookies by Design stores bake their cookies fresh and hand decorates them on location. That dedication to freshness is evident in the taste. They also customize each cookie at no additional charge. Add a message, a name, or date. Whatever will make the bouquet special for your recipient.
The cookies themselves are a sugar & cinnamon brown sugar cookie dough which I swear tastes a bit like they have almond extract in them. I could be wrong, but the flavor it is there. They’re very reminiscent of the cookies I make every Christmas that my family raves about.
The cookies are large – 4” – 6” in size and 3/8” to ½” thick (about 4oz each) and definitely enough to feed 2 people or more from each cookie. My only complaint is their extensive use of food coloring. With so many safer food dyes available, I’d like to see them switch or at least offer safer dyes. When you’re buying for someone getting over an illness, a new mother, or small children, using safer products should be a natural. Sure, you won’t get the deep, rich icing colors but I’m ok with that. For that reason, I’d likely buy one of their non-iced cookies as a gift – they look delicious and don’t have food coloring.
I received the Back-to-School cookie bouquet which consists of seven large hand decorated cookies in fun shapes which included: an old-fashioned school house, two smiling students – one girl and the other a boy, a computer, a set of text books – math and science, a yellow school bus, and a shiny red apple. The cookie were packed in their standard container (no extra charge) and finished with tissue paper, cellophane wrap, ribbon, and a gift card. The perfect gift for your child’s first day of school or a special teacher’s gift.
Cookies by Design does plenty of their own exclusive designs, but they also carry some of the most popular licensed designs. These include some adorable Disney princess cookie bouquets which feature Cinderella, Snow White, Ariel, Sleeping Beauty, Tiana, Belle, and Jasmine. There are other Disney characters including Mickey Mouse, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Daisy, and Donald. You can order the Disney gang to celebrate any holiday- birthday, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, as well as every life event – new baby, wedding, and more. Also in the Disney roundup are Pooh and the gang.
But Cookies by Design goes beyond their Disney license and offers NBA, NHL, NFL, and NCAA sports designs, plus everyone’s favorite cartoon cat, Garfield. Also, in many areas Cookies by Design offers a small selection of quality cookie bouquets that are available for same day delivery – never be caught off guard on a special day!
Cookie bouquet prices range from $16 to $100+ with the average coming in right around $55 for the 7-cookie bouquet that I received. Each store also produces sugar, cinnamon brown sugar, and chocolate cookie dough as well as cookie cakes and gourmet cookies.
Is a Cookies by Design cookie bouquet worth the price? Well, they’re delicious, better than flowers because these cookies can be shared or frozen and enjoyed up to 2 months later, so for me, that’s a yes!
My cookies were baked, decorated, and delivered by the Bellevue Cookies by Design store. That’s the store I’ve ordered from several times and soon I’m going to make a trip to check them out in person. They’re located at 677 120th Ave NE STE A-03, Bellevue, WA 98005 and can be reached at 425-646-0124 or 800-353-0124. They’re open Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 2pm (they’re closed Sundays).
