I just wanted to do a quick follow up to a post I did last week (read: Spin Into Action Campaign Champions for Kids SIMPLE Service Project #CBIAS). You may remember that I had the opportunity to take a trip to my local WalMart store to pick out some oral care items to donate to a local charity through the Champions for Kids Simple Service Project Oral Care Spin into Action Spinbrush program. For me it was a lot of fun shopping in the kids’ aisle again and it brought back a lot of memories of buying fun character toothbrushes for my kid’s years ago to encourage them to brush and floss. Thankfully for us it worked. Both of my boys are adults now and both have very few fillings and they still maintain great oral hygiene.
In deciding on what charity to would receive my donation – which included several Arm & Hammer Spinbrushes as well as toothpaste and flossers – the most important factor for me was the they went directly to kids in need. In the end I chose a local elementary school because I worked as a head secretary a few years ago and remember well the parents who needed assistance with providing basic hygiene care for their kids, so it seemed a perfect fit for my donation.
My niece is a 5th grade teacher so I delivered my donation to her and she’s passing it on to her school nurse. I just wanted to share her joy in receiving the items and my happiness in providing them. Katie works for a school district that’s considered affluent in our state, but not every child who attends the school can afford the basics. Now with this donation, the school will have on hand a few toothbrushes, toothpaste, and kids flossers for those children who need them. I love that!
