chronicle director's cut the lost footage edition

Hey readers, it has been a while since my last review as I have been busy with my new job! Today I am reviewing the Chronicle Director’s Cut: “The Lost Footage Edition” Blu-ray (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo +Digital Copy)

This movie was a major surprise to me when I first saw it in the theaters; I had not heard much about it except that it was a new take on the superhero genre. When I finally ended up seeing it I was blown away with its originality. The movie shows three high school kids finding a mysterious artifact and then follows their journey of discovering their new and continually developing telepathic powers. Chronicle uses an interesting style of camera work that really pulls you into the movie and makes it more believable. I hate to use the comparison, but it is in the same line as the Blair Witch Project. It uses almost exclusively the handheld camera perspective but not in a jarring and motion sickness inducing way. The director, Josh Trank, chose his lead actors very well; they are all relative newcomers to film so their characters become even more believable in their world. The three leads, Dane DeHaan, Alex Russell, and Michael B. Jordan all give fantastic performances.

Chronicle – On Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download

This Blu-ray is an interesting package, as it lacks some of the now assumed standard special features such as a making of featurette, but it makes up for those shortcomings by including the full director’s cut. The director’s cut includes a huge number of never-before-seen footage that has been fully integrated with the existing theater cut of the film. These extra scenes add additional back story and create a much more pleasing experience than the original cut of the film.

Chronicle is one of the biggest surprises of the year with its gritty and realistic style it brings a new perspective to the superpower/superhero genre. It’s got substance and flash and while viewers under 13 may want to stay away because of some violent scenes, I think most viewers will be very pleasantly surprised by this movie.
