This new cookbook, 350 Best Vegan Recipes, covers everything from breakfast to dessert. But what I love most about this book is that it takes the cooking from scratch to a whole other level.

While most vegan cookbooks call for processed ingredients found at your local or specialty store, in this book the author dedicates an entire section to teaching you how to make some of those same ingredients yourself.  She gives you recipes and instructions for making your own vegan bouillon, homemade tofu, sour cream (tofu, safflower oil, lemon juice, vinegar, sugar, and salt), vegan sweetened condensed milk (sugar, water, vegan butter, and soy milk), and more.

The “vegan from scratch” is a great section in the 350 Best Vegan Recipes book, but it’s not the only fabulous feature the author has included.  There’s a suggested menu and a vegan pantry to help you get everything stocked and on hand for vegan cooking.

The recipes are innovative and easy-to-make with everything from appetizers and hearty salads, to soups and main courses and decadent desserts. My only complaint is there are just a handful of photographs in the book.  Granted, they’re beautiful, but I prefer a cookbook that provides a photo for every recipe.
