IMAX: Born to be Wild is a lighthearted family movie with narration by Morgan Freeman (Dolphin Tale, Million Dollar Baby) and directed by David Lickley (Jane Goodall’s Wild Chimpanzees). It tells the story of two separate wild animal rescues – an elephant rescue in Kenya and an orangutan rescue in the forests of Borneo.
In the expansive savannas of Kenya you’ll learn about Dr. Dame Daphne M. Sheldrick‘s efforts to find orphaned baby elephants (the result of poachers) and raise them past childhood. You’ll see the newest orphaned member of the rescue learn to live with his new human caretakers who must sleep with the elephants every night to imitate the round-the-clock care of an elephant mother.
IMAX: Born to be Wild is available on Blu-ray Combo pack, On Demand, DVD and, Digital download on 4/17/12

In Borneo you’ll see baby orangutans who have been separated from their mothers as a result of rainforest logging operations. Raised by Dr. Birute Mary Galdikas and other caretakers, these orangutans learn and grow alongside other orangutans for about eight years, when they are then sent out into the wild to live on their own.
This really is the perfect family film, it is heartfelt, funny, and educational while being entertaining to people of all ages. The movie’s short run time keeps the pace up and keeps the younger generation from losing interest. The visual quality of this Blu-ray is second to none, as you would expect from an IMAX movie it has crystal clear picture and sound quality. Amazing shots from the forest floor and aerial shots from above the Kenyan savannah are very impressive in the High Definition (HD) Blu-ray format and Morgan Freeman’s amazing narration again prove why he is the go-to voice talent for nature films.
I would recommend IMAX: Born to be Wild to any and all that find nature or animals interesting. It is perfect for all ages young and old. I really have nothing bad to say about it at all, with the exception that I would have loved to have received the 3D version, but it was pretty awesome in 2D.
10 out of 10!
